Default "Clunk" noise when turning steering wheel when car is parked

Hi,

I just noticed this sound coming from my car (2001 coupe EX V6) when I turn the steering wheel either way. The can hear the noise only when the car is parked.
It's morel like one "clunk" when I turn left, then when I turn to the right, another "clunk".

I have been searching this board for message threads for this kind of problem.
So, correct me if I am wrong.

Since the noise is happening when car is parked, the problem shouldn't be from CV-joints?

I plan to raise the front of the car (until the front tires don't touch the ground), and at least try to inspect the wheel areas.
Is there anything specific I should be looking for?

How can I tell if the steering fluid is bad/old/or needs to be replaced?

I can do oil change and brake/rotor jobs myself. So, my knowledge is car fixing is limited.
Specific instructions would be nice, and helpful "noob traps" to avoid would be great as well.

Thank you.

When you jack the car, take both wheels off. Have your buddy rotate the wheel whil you try to narrow it down - use your hands and ears. You should be able to narrow it to one side or the other.

To test for the outer tie rods, take one off, is you still have the noise, return the first and pull the second. Mark them before you start, but you may still need an alignment.
