Default Radio/AC/Heat LCD display went out tonight

Lets get the basics out of the way: 2004 Accord Ex Coupe. All options except Nav system. About 45K miles.

I was driving tonight thinking about how I never have had to put my accord in the shop for something unexpected, when all of a sudden, the lights for my radio, and A/C / Heat went out completely.

The radio stayed on, and all the buttons function perfectly fine, which tells me there isnt a fuse issue (i wish there were). The a/c still works and the heat still works, as well as all the buttons below. (vent buttons, defrost buttons, etc.)

Its just the entire LCD display went black. This is only on the center console display, my dash display is fine.

Has anyone ever run across anything like this or have any ideas on what to look for?

it's a common problem and seems to happen on the radios w/o navi basically your going to need a new radio to fix the problem hope warranty covers it.

Default nope...no warranty

im not under warranty. but only about 45K miles. If this is a common problem, would honda america fix this for me? Ill pay the labor, I just think its rediculous to pay 1000 dollars for a new radio, that still works, because they have an issue with the display. Anyone else have any ideas?

Or has there been a recall on this since it was a common problem?

Press and hold the CD button for 5 seconds.
You will hear a beep and the display should come back on

Normally, if you press and hold the CD button it will set the radio into a stealth mode. The display will go completely black, and if press it again the display will come back.
If that doesnt work, you'll have to replace to radio.

i just called honda america, and they did in fact tell me that this is their problem. They directed me to call my local dealer and set up an appointment. I did, and the dealer told me it was 100% free!

How easy is that! Ill wait to hold my applause, however, until its fixed and I am back on the road.
