Default NAV System Problem

I haven’t driven my ’06 with NAV for about a month since the weather has been so bad. I’ve been driving the old trusty ’96.

Today I went to take it out for a spin, and the battery was dead when I tried to start it. When I turned the ignition back on it wanted a NAV code. I looked mine up and it is the same as the radio code. It wouldn’t take it. After a few tries, the NAV screen went blank. I disconnected the battery terminals and charged the battery, when I turned it back on it now wanted a radio code that I could enter with the right radio knob. The NAV screen appears as normal when initializing, but then the Security code window blinks and the screen goes dark. I do not have the chance to enter the code again.

Something is really screwy here. According to the manual (yes, I read it) you should get 10 tries, and if you lock it out, turn the car off and on and you get 10 more tries. I can’t keep the screen on long enough to enter the code again. I even removed and reinserted the DVD hoping to get it initialized again.

HELP! Anyone else have this problem? Is my NAV system hosed? Dealer is closed today.

Had it disconnected for about 1/2 hour. No joy! I think it wants a NAV System PIN, not a security code. I never had one set.

I don't think the nav and radio codes are supposed to be the same; on mine they are different. It sounds like maybe you don't have the right code. You might need to contact the dealer or something.

I have the radio card in hand. They are the same. I really think it wants a PIN for the address book, which I never set.

It's possible they made a mistake. It doesn't make sense for them to have it as the same code, and I don't the code can be changed. You should call your dealer and double check; I think they might be able to look it up with the vin.

Did you buy your car new or used? If you never set the pin and bought it new, then I think they made a mistake.

Purchased new.

I am sure it wants the address book PIN, but I know I never set one. I didn't want to have to enter it each time.

If you've never had to enter the address book pin before, I don't see how it could just turn on by itself.

You do have to enter the nav and radio pins whenever the battery is disconnected, though. Doesn't hurt to run it by a dealer.
