Sucking water into a motor isn't going to destroy it...do a simple diagnosis to find out why your motor isn't starting
First thing i would do would be to pull the plugs out and then get back in the car and turn the key over a couple of times that should force most of the water out of the cylinders, put your plugs back in and try to start the car.
If it doesn't start then I guess its time to look into getting a new block

as long as you drive with common sense and you don't go thru a huge puddle hydrolock will never happen. its people that think they can traverse the flooded out area because they don't think the puddle looks too deep. thats just asking for it. common sense is the major factor to avoiding hydrolock.

My preferred intake is the OEM box with the OE resonator removed and a K&N filter installed. The OE tube flexes just fine, it's internal ID is the same as that from the big name intakes (2.5").
The surface area of the stock filter is plenty for flow; a K&N type supplies plenty of flow above stock.
Removing the resonator removes the restrictive part of the system and sucks cool are from inside the fender/under bumper area. As long as you keep the OE bumper and OE splash sheild you should never have an issue.
I had an AEM CAI for several years, but I kept wearing out rubber parts or plastic parts to their kit. I got tired of that and simply went back to semi-stock. I can't tell the difference.
