ok, update for anyone who cares. we ended up finding a good transmission that had 40,000 original miles (swapped out for a 5 speed a long time ago) and her brother swapped them out for us free of charged. while in there, they replaced the motor mounts. total cost of transmission and motor mounts came to $450 and after giving him a $150 tip, its like a brand new car. so anyone looking to rebuild a transmission, look for a good used one if you arent looking to spend 2k, you could probably get it all done for around 1k for a swap.
