i buy expensive items on CC so that if they get stolen, i get it replaced free. not all CC are like that though.

yes i did...like an idiot. I'm sure that's happened to many people as well. At first, you take it off all the time, then you get tired of it, so you're like, "I'll take it off when it doesn't seem like a safe area", and next your like "someone took my ****ing CD player!!!"

They stole my hazard button too, wtf, who steals that?!? Costs me $55 to replace it b/c I don't have time to find a junkyard here(austin...I'm from Houston) and I can't signal without it and that was bothering me, people didn't know I was trying to get into lanes.

I'm just thinking of putting my old stereo back in an getting a small portable mp3 player w/ car kit. B/c if I put another one in, without the face plate they still might think its in the glovebox or something, break my window and not find it there. And there goes more $$ for a replacement window.

wow thats a first....

anyways sorry to hear about that man, i know exactly what you mean when you say you got tired of taking off the faceplate, i only take it off when I'm in a bad area or if I leave my car in the same spot for at least an hour or 2. I guess i should be more careful...

Yes, through sharing my experience, I hope that everyone takes their faceplate off if they have one. Don't let those assholes get away with it. And if you see something like this to you or someone else, call the cops, I will from now on. I hope that you guys and others don't have to go through the frustration and experience I went through.

Sometimes I've wondered if I'm just being overly cautious by taking my faceplate off -- alright, I'm not the only one! The guy who had the car before me had one stolen, so he installed the security. Now I bought a different head unit (he kept his) and take it off all the time unless I'm just going to be 5 minutes. I'm more paranoid when I go to the movies though, cuz that's where it happened before. Sorry to hear about it!

get an eclipse cd player, not only do they have one of the best sound
quality outputs, but if "professionally" installed, it comes with a 3yr
manufactures warranty and if it gets stolen they will replace it in 72 hours
, but none of their decks have detachable faces, but that wont be a problem
if you know youll get a brand new one in 3 days......

just my 2 cents

Varyda: thx for the input, but they might break my window to get it.

Well, its getting easier as the days go by. I'm just trying to not stay mad b/c if I am, then he's not only gotten my radio but gotten to me. Sometimes you gotta say, oh well, it coulda been worst, chalk it up to experience.
