Default Rising temperature

Hi,

I have a 91 Accord and just last weekend I noticed that when the car is idling, the temperature starts to rise quite considerably. I noticed that it only does this when I'm driving long distances (30+ miles). I'll be stopped at a light and after a little bit..the temperature needle starts rising. As soon as I accelerate, the needle goes back to normal.

Also, as soon as I park the car, the fan comes on right away. .Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem in my '94 Accord. Overheating and the fans kick on after I drive. I went ahead and replaced the thermostat and topped off my coolant. No probs thus far but I think it will probably start acting up again soon once the coolant gets low. I'm pretty sure I have a coolant leak coming from the water pump. :a:

start with the thermostat. its a cheap fix. yours maybe getting stuck. then check for leaks in hoses and the radiator.

If your temp gauge is to the 1/2 way mark, check to see if the radiator fan is on.If not ,turn a/c on if equipped. If then the fan comes on, most likely have a bad temp sensor/switch in your thermostat housing. Find the connector to the switch on thermo housing. Unplug and short the connector. Do this when you know the engine is running hotter than it should. If your fan comes on when you short the connector, than your temp switch is bad.

not necessarily. my sister's 90 corolla had a leaking hose and radiator. they made no puddle on the ground. a dye was put in her radiator to find the leaks. small one at a clamp on 1 hose and the radiator was weeping. leaks were not large enough to puddle on the ground but she lost enough coolant to make her guage go up and have to have antifreeze replaced. she now has a new hose and radiator. she was also getting alot of air in her heater core so her heat was spotty from the leaks. that has now stopped. air in the cooling system will make it idle rough also.
