Default cooling system service

Hi,
I did search before posting this.

For 99, Accord, 4cyl, Auto Trans.

What is the best way to service the cooling system? should I drain or flush? If I want to just drain and refill, will that work? All I want to do is change the coolant. If I drain and refill two times (like I did with the transmission fluid) will that work?
Thanks for any help.
Bill.

you can always just have it charged too, sometimes thats all it needs to get that cold air back out again

I think shipu7la is talking about anti freeze coolant. I usually drain then take the garden hose flush out all excess coolant while the engine is running (idling). Then I fill 50/50 coolant and water.

Don't refill it with tap water. Buy some distilled water and use that to help prevent any build up and corrosion.

I just did a tune-up a few weeks ago on my '98 4-cyl. (auto). Depending on how many miles the car has, you may want to think about replacing the thermostat as well. I have 80K miles on mine, and replaced the thermostat. If you're going to replace the thermostat, make sure you spend the extra few bucks and buy it from the dealer and not from you local auto parts store. I bought 50/50 pre-mixed coolant (2 bottles), a Prestone Cooling Sytem Flush, and a new thermostat (came with a gasket).

Drain the existing coolant, once drained, add the Preston Flush and fill the rest with regular water (read the instructions), drain again, fill with regular water alone, let it run, and drain one last time. Remove the reservoir bottle and clean it out as well. If you're going to replace the thermostat, wait till everything cools off under the hood, and replace it before you fill up the system with new coolant.

I have 61,100 miles right now.Do I need to replace Themostat now? I am going to have 60k service soon. So, I will go to dealer to have my valve adjusted, spark plug replaced and all other work am trying to do myself. Thanks for your help.

On a 1998 Accord 4-cyl, where is the thermostat located?

Thanks.

Thanks.
Lower radiator hose where it connects to the engine block. You'll need to remove the air intake to get to it.
