Default please help- 98 V6 transmission questions

It looks like the transmission on my 98 V6 coupe is going out at about 120k miles. It has a really hard time shifting out of first gear and doesn't do well at all when it gets hot. I'll have to get it replaced/rebuilt. Here's my question- if I get the work done, how much longer will it run? I've been reading really bad reviews of the transmissions of this car online. After I get it fixed, will it go for another 100k miles or should I think about selling it?

I plan on getting it fixed- but should I have it rebuilt or replaced? Does it matter? And how many miles can I expect the transmission to be OK after it is fixed?

replacing it = you should be fine for atleast 100K miles more

rebuilding it = depends on the quality of rebuild.

Like he said, a rebuild is dependant upon who does it.
A replacement may be the same crap shoot. These transmissions were not built well and most will fail early. Replacing it just gives you a new transmission with the same inherent problems, that is, Honda has not gone back and fixed these issues. When you replace it, you are getting the same original design. I would try to find a reputable rebuild place - it may be the least expensive option.

First i would call Honda Of America... not your dealer, HOA. my personal story about HOA. All my family has ever owned is hondas since the early 80s. So my moms 98 v6 accord was about the 4th brand new honda about the 6th used one my family had bought. So when the transmission started going out about 110K last year, my mom called the dealership and was like WTF? I have owned about 10 hondas all of which never needed more than regular maintainance, and all had over 200k when sold or traded. Now i want to know WTF is up with this one and what you are going to do about it. Turns out they had ALOT of problems out of those trannies. HOA, had the local dealer(who by the way said they wernt going to do a damn thing about it) replace it when a brand new transmission and all my mom had to pay for was the labor to put it in. SO CALL HOA and bitch them out, They will more than likely do somthing about it.

You get more with sugar that you do with salt. Call HOA and nicely explain the situation. That you've owned several Honda's and plan to keep buying their vehicles. They are aware of the problem with the 6th Gen. V6 trannies, you just have to bring YOUR car to thier attention.

Ok, enough of me sounding like a momh: .

Thanks for the advice. Did yall just call the HOA customer service number and talk to any old guy that answered the phone? Or did you have to get a manager on the phone?
