did you wire something in wrong? like maby connect a red wire to a black on and a black on to a red one? just thinking that mabe you got some wires crossed

 

wedley2 it is plug in, the fan turns on when I turn off the car. It just starts to over heat when am stoped. That's what am not understanding, strykernyc you think I should change relay? or you mean the fan motor connector? Which one is for the AC Fan? Cuz that one works fine so it's the other fan. How about an Auxilary fan switch? I've read it might be a temp switch, thermoswitch and Auxilary fan switch also might be the fan relay. But i have no idea where these are located at. Anyone have any pictures of where these are located on a 97 honda Accord 4d?

 

if i were you i'd check for leaks around the distributor and throtle body. Mine did the same thing after my radiator cracked and it turned out to be a punctured hose by the throtle and distributor.

 

I've checked for leaks and didn't find any, and I don't think it's my relay by the fan either becasue the fan does turn on after i turn off the car. Just doesn't turn on while the car is running so it starts to over heat. I could test the switch and relay to see if there any power, but I dont' know the ohms there suppose to be, anyone know?

did u flush the radiator? change all the main relay and especially fan relay. are you 100% sure the thermostat is working good and is not stuck open? also check fan timer.

I think your problem is electrial unless u see smoke coming out of ur engine.
the fan should not come on after u turn the car off in this weather and the fan usually turn on only when it needs too, like in the summer. if you can not fix the problem then take it to a honda dealer they will fix the problem on a heart beat.

 

How can you check to see if the thermostat is working properly?

 

Bleed the cooling system... might help.

 

The fan switch in the thermostat housing is responsible for running the fan when the engine is running. Follow the lower radiator hose towards the back, underneath the intake duct. Unplug the 'sensor' in the thermostat housing, and jumper between the 2 wires with a paperclip. Key on, that should run the fan. If it DOES, then everything is OK except that fan switch that you just unplugged. Get a new one.

If that doesn't run the fan, come back & we'll go on from there.

The sending unit for the dashboard temperature gauge doesn't have anything to do with switching the radiator fan.

ps... The other fan switch at the upper radiator hose, that one's responsible for running the fan after the engine is turned off. That one seems to be working OK.
