1996 Accord EX engine misfires/starting problems
#11
I had to use 93 in my 96 Accord, otherwise it would detonate and ping like crazy. Even after I had the timing adjusted, tune-up, fuel filter replaced, injectors cleaned, fuel system treatment, you name it! The engine just didn't run right on anything less than 91 octane (but most filling stations here don't have 91, so I had to use 93) I figured pinging would do more harm to the motor than if I ran a higher octane than the manual suggested.
With that said, if the engine runs fine on 87... using higher octane would be a waste of $$ and does NOT increase performance. The F22 SHOULD be able to run on 87 octane, via it's compression ratio. Oh well, my car was a spoiled brat...it liked the good stuff I guess :hsdunno:

Let me rephrase that.
I just talked to my buddy at work whose car is turbo'd. 93 octane is more resistive to ignition UNDER COMPRESSION. The gas shouldn't have anything to do with the starting problem.

I appreciate it....
What the hell is it then?
Only doesnt start on first try in the morning.... starts right up on second try and all day long after that...
Misfires only happened a few times, but are a result of the starting... seems like when i start it, when it has misfired, it wasnt starting fully, only firing up 3 of the cylinders...???
Engine misfired yesterday when i started it around lunchtime, waited.. let it idle... and it workd itself out and stopped misfiring.. didnt give me a CEL, but when it misfired in the past i drove away while it was misfiring, and the light came on after about 1 mile and eventually the misfiring stopped, still leaving the light on. like i said when i drive it and it misfires, the light blinks and the car is shaking baddly!!!

But either way, stop putting in 93

Here're some possibilities...
1) PGM-FI relay
2) fuel pump (or a bad injector)
3) check your compression
4) adjust valve clearance
5) MAP sensor
6) Primary H02S
What's the fault code you get sometimes for the misfire? P1300 or P30_?

Yeah i always used 87 fuel with my 91 runs great with 87 but i just resently put a full tank of 93 octane because the gas station only had 93 and i was low on fuel extremely to the point where i couldnt get to another place and I can feel the difference because my car just resently started to have a little trouble in cold starts and doesnt run as smooth i am trying to run my tank all out and then fill it up with 87 from 76 station.

I have a 94 with 237,000 miles on it, never in its life has it got anything over 87 or 89. Car starts runs and even still can through me back in my seat when needed.. heh.. Its not the gas dude.. You should check, the o2 sensor, which is a quick cheap fix, or maybe the timing belts are off... quit putting that crap in the gas!
