edit. vtec and i vtec both kick in at 5 1/2. wat does having it close to redline have to do with when vtec kicks in dumb ass.. vtec is to save gas at high rpms, as well as keep performance.

that doesnt make any sense. if vtec was any closer to say 4 rpms you'd waste alot of gas.. when vtec is activated both exhuast and intake valves are open wide. cuz of the lobe on the camshafts. so that is why its at the HIGHER rpms range.. stupid noob.

I can't believe this thread is actually still going. It doesn't really matter, it's SOHC VTEC, you get nothing out of it.

dude are u an idiot? one of the first integras was SOHC VTEC, because of the SOHC VTEC on the integra they began to implement it on most HONDA/aCURA high end cars. i just tol du what vtec was. BOTH EXHUAST AND INTAKE VALVES ARE LEFT WIDE OPEN AT HIGH RPM RANGE THUS MORE HORSE POWER AND TORQUE. this forumn is full of noobs!

why don't you just go out and drive around and try it. it's when your car jumps to speed a little. to make V-Tech work, your car must warm up nicely. You can't start your car up, and and floor your car and expect a V-Tech. I personally dont like V-Tech

Ok my video went completly unnoticed. VTEC is really just a slight improvement nothing major. i mean technically the roller-liffters on a corvette engine do what VTEC does, by using rollers instead of direct contact lobes you can get a more agressive lift at higher rpms. VTEC is not some magical power that makes your honda a Formula racer... i believe toyota also has a variable valvetrain system and you dont see them making a huge deal out of it... just drop it!

since this started last year im not sure which year this thread is the worst in... so its the worst thread in 05-06

You have to be kidding me. First, please take some typing classes at your local community college. Secondly, I understand completely what VTEC is, I'll be fully ASE certified in Honda/Acura by the end of this upcoming Summer.

I may as well correct you since you insist on being an ass. SOHC VTEC only has a variable intake cam, not both exhaust and intake, which Honda's DOHC engines carry. Because of this, DOHC VTEC usually is far more effective as far as power figures go. The lift and duration is also much more aggressive on these motors than the lowly SOHC counterparts.

Secondly, this SOHC VTEC Integra you speak of, I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. VTEC was first introduced in the NSX in 1989 and has since then made it's way through the Honda lineup.

My point was initially that there is such a small performance gain from SOHC VTEC that I was surprised that people were still arguing about it.
