Default So a Semi-truck tire hits my Accord...

So I'm driving down the Indiana toll Road going about 85. I am in the left lane passing this semi and I'm about half way when I see all these pieces of rubber flying off of the front left tractor tire. So I start to slow down and at the same time the whole tire (or what's left of it, pretty much the tread minus the side walls) rips off the rim and starts to roll into my lane.

So rather than swerve either into the semi next to me or off of the road to left of my, I veer to the left. So Im half on the shoulder and half in the lane and the tire just kept rolling towards the left. I pretty much had no other choice than to hit it or slam on my brakes (which doing about 70 with cars behind me was not what I wanted). So the tire slams in to my front left and smashes to the crap out of my bumper and then it whips around and smacks my tire and passenger door. It cracked my bumper all to hell, knocked off my emblem, pulled my bumper down, slightly dented passenger door, and scuffed up the paint pretty bad.

I was pretty angry because this is my first decent car (previously had a 1991 Toyota Corrolla). I spent over 5 months looking until I found the Accord that had everything I wanted. And I have only had it for about 6 months.
Here's some pictures:

How much was the quote for repair?
That's gotta suck.

The same thing happened to me once... but it wasn't a tire... it was some old lady pulling out of a parking lot and not turning into the correct lane. I tried avoiding hitting her, but she kept going further and further left and I couldn't hit the brakes.

that sucks....so did the truck driver realize? or did you catch up to him and get him to pull over? or did you just contact the name on the truck afterwards?

That sucks, but it could have been alot worse. Glad you're ok! And by those pics, it doesn't look to bad, not to much work to get it fixed it looks like. Good luck on getting them to pay for the damage! Like I said, it coulda been alot worse (rearended by cars going 70 mph or slamming into the truck, among other scenario's...)

Default The Semi tire quote...

The semi couldn't drive anymore (no front tire) so he had to pull over. I pulled over to make sure everything was ok on my car. I had to reverse about 300 yards to meet up with the semi.

the driver was actualy really cool. It was a driver team and the other driver was sleeping. The actaul driver had a disposable camera and took tons of pictures of my damge. he called the directy of safety(?) and I talke d him directly. He said we could handle this ourselves and no need for insurance companies. I figured it's a two way street and if he can help me I can help him. (Dedctibles and insurance claims on semi are probably outrageous). So he tells me to get 3 quotes for repair; which I do. He goes with the cheapest - $950. Mostly for the new bumper and painting of it (it comes black). And the rest for buffing out he rubber. I cleaned off the rubber and it looks semi-ok. Still waiting for the check though.

Do you think I should get a new bumper, or maybe just get a bra and cover it? Obviously the new bumper would look the best , but I need a new wheel bearing in the back and an alignment. What do you guys think?

Here's some pictures after my cleaning it:

That's great that he was seemed cool. Hope you get the check soon! And def. a new bumper... but doesn't that quote include the alignment and what not? It should, as that was caused by the crash, was it not?
