You're generalizing. That's true of most cars but not all.

yeah, but the redline isnt always the best choice, sometimes the power loss is more than the gearing can make up for, redline might be good for second gear, say, but for third it might not be.

Id say on a stock car that doesnt have any supporting mods for higher end power, it would actually hurt you to rev past the limiter, or even sometimes just past a certain rpm. Thats why when you see that are cars are rated and a certain hp, that rating is also at a certain rpm.
