I agree with MrChad on making vehicles last. I've been driving since I was about 17 and I've gone through three vehicles. A 1995 Ford F-150 XL truck, a 1998 Honda Accord EX-L Coupe and a 2005 RSX Type-S.

There's always been something that moved me to another vehicle and not necessarily the problems with the current one.

I bought the Accord because I needed something better on gas and I wanted something a little sporty and two doors.

I bought the RSX-S because I wanted a newer car that was equally as good on gas with more performance and had a manual transmission.

Hey 98CoupeV6, I see you joined the V1 club. Why do you say it's useless?? How did you wire yours, btw? I wired mine to the map lights in my Accord when I still had it.

I've had mine for 4 years actually. It's useless because here in NYS laser use is rampant on the major highways...it's suicide to go above 10-15 MPH unless you're following other traffic. I've narrowly escaped two laser encounters (quickly ducked into the right hand lane and slowed down and the cop got the guy following me) but have learned my lesson not to speed unless it's on a secondary road or a road I know has no laser. I even got laser'd in a city for the first time last month.

In my 4 years I've gotten two tickets: one when I was on my cell phone not paying attention and had the V1's volume turned all the way down (I also thought I was in a 55 but it was a 35 for some reason), and a few months ago when I passed a cop on a side road doing like 75 in a 40 who didn't have his radar on. He then lied to me and told me that he had his radar on and got me doing 55...I took it to court and got it reduced to running a traffic light or something like that. The first one I got out of altogether.

My V1 is hard wired to my fuse box and works off of a radio shack switch that looks very OEM mounted to the left of my cruise switch on the blank button (the spot for the fog light). The V1 is clipped to my sun visor and the concealed display phone cord runs into my headliner, down my A-pillar, through the lower panels and comes out right above the radio panel where I have it double face taped to the bottom of my XM SkyFi2 holder. It's pretty slick and took me awhile to figure out and do.

It's been about eighteen months since I've gotten a speeding ticket and that was when I had my Cobra and the volume of the Cobra wasn't louder than my system. I rarely have this problem with the V1.

In Arkansas we have virtually no laser, at least I've never seen police shooting laser. My county uses Ka, highway patrol/state troopers also use Ka. Little Rock/Puluski County uses K. Also the Chevy Trailblazers Puluski uses are X and there's bits of X south of where I graduated high school (about 30 miles from Little Rock)

If you get hit with laser a lot you need to check out www.laserveil.com
It's not snake oil like the tornado or anything, there's actually been independent tests done by ex-police and independent resources like Speed Measurment Labs. When I go on a roadtrip I'm going to pick up a can.

if you want an OE quality replacement windshield.

I have been using www.89glass.com they use AP-Tech glass on the 6th gen Accords, the same glass honda uses. I'm on windshield number 3 now. All of my AP Tech logos and glass look identical to my sister's still OE Honda windshield. except I don't have a Honda logo. This is as stock as you can get, way better then the PPG glass I had on the last windshield.

The key to making any car last along time is mental.

What do I mean, if you really like a car and truely like the car you can make that SOB last as long as you want, period. Look at the guy that put 1-million miles on an Accord. Hey it had some issues over life, but he must have liked the car....

But if you don't truely like the car and deep down want a new one, you will eventually have to get a new car because you already gave up on the one you have.

So when someone asks me what used or new car should I buy, I tell them the one they truely have always wanted and can afford with in reason.

Why do I say this? I can tell anyone to buy a Honda per the numbers and reviews. I can sell an Accord on logic.

But if you truely don't like the car every little bug will piss you off, but if you always wanted a Miata for example, and you get one...that SOB could leave you dead on the road 5 times but if you truely love the car, odds are you won't give crap period, you will fix it an love it. I love my Accord to death, I'd replace the engine before getting a new car.

This is my car buying advice to you.....
Thank you, Chad; makes sense.

Can you clarify this a bit more for me, Chad? Are you saying that it is POSSIBLE these aren't Honda OEM ground effect pieces that were used----or they ARE but just "off" somehow? I mean, its either that they ARE OEM or not, right?

I mean, if a piece of my underbody OEM spoiler kit isnt looking "right" to my eyes after an accident, what is being used here-----IS there a genuine Honda OEM skirt being used by the body shop or is something else being used? How do we know?

98CoupeV6 -- It's a transparent liquid/film you put over your front/rear plates and head/tail lights.

When you take a picture of your car at night the most reflective (i.e. best to shoot you with laser) surfaces are plates and headlights.

It basically reduces the police officers effective range of laser pin-pointing. Use it in conjunction with your V1 to detect and respond to laser.

I'm saying your insurance can autherize junkyard parts. And sometimes used parts can be off a tad on the reinstall.

I have the Honda OE side skirts from the kit, and they are off a bit too, and I installed them myself. It's just how they fit.
