"Yeah, if you throw out all the accident stuff, you're left with the tranny, the alternator, and a few bulbs. Besided the tranny, that's pretty reliable over 60k miles. Too bad about the tranny, but luckily you didn't have to pay for an entire new one."

So do you think she's "worth keeping"? Will I get more mileage out of this sixth generation coupe? (what's your mileage at by the way?)

"Stock tires after 60K miles...get some new tires! If your car is feeling old and tired as you have sometimes referred to it as, no wonder! lol. Some new performance tires will help that."

Funny thing.....every dealer I take it to says the same thing: Your tires are in perfect shape; no tread wear, no sidewall cracking, nothing.....they question where I go with the car!

I guess thats what I wanted to know, Macleod; you honestly think these are things that can happen to EVERY car?

simply put, yes. my 04 coupe had its 3rd brake light go out after owning it for approx. 14 months. no biggy. bought replacements for $3 and fixed it myself. alternators/batteries are probably the simplest of fixes, even if they do go out (although not cheap). you car sounds normal, if not doin far aboVe avg than the other stuff on the street. i say keep it.

Thank you very much for your comforting thoughts above.

Why did you have so many brake lights burn out on such a new car? Do u have any pics u can share of your coupe? It sounds interesting to look at........

Thanks again.......

Well I've said this over and over in your threads...you are the only one that can answer that. If you want a new car, and you can afford it, sure. If you decide you don't, then don't.

Of course you'll get more mileage out of your car, why wouldn't you? It'll last longer than you want to keep it. (barring any accidents). 98CoupeV6 has like 160K miles, almost 3x as many as you. Will little things continue to break and wear out? Sure, that's part of owning a car. That's why dealers don't give 20 year 200K warranties. But bottom line is you can get 150K miles out of your car with any required maintainance or repairs cheaper than buying a new car and driving that until you hit 150K combined your car's mileage plus the new car's mileage.

I have 89K on my 99. Hasn't missed a beat really...I replaced a ball joint, cost me $30 to diy. Other than regular maintainance stuff like spark plugs, filters, brakes, tires, etc. and the aftermarket stuff I've swapped out, that's been the only thing to go out.

Sure, I had an accident, and once I had to replace my windshield due to a flying rock, but that has nothing to do with the car's reliability.

Bottom line, no one can really tell you anything that hasn't already been said to you on this forum that can make you decide to either keep your car or buy a new one, that's up to you.

He said he had one brake light go out...no biggie. You don't try and sell your house because a light bulb burns out, things like that are expected to happen.

His 04 could be nearly 2 years old, happens.

190k next week :happysad:

Aside from routine stuff and prevantative stuff: Alternator, tranny, lower right ball joint, left tie rod (didnt really need changing though), struts...that's pretty much it. $2600 in maintenance costs (including a tranny) for my car for the past 40k miles.

Let me address this one issue at a time, J, and thanks for your continued assistance....

"Of course you'll get more mileage out of your car, why wouldn't you? It'll last longer than you want to keep it. (barring any accidents). 98CoupeV6 has like 160K miles, almost 3x as many as you. Okay.

"Sure, I had an accident, and once I had to replace my windshield due to a flying rock"

You did? How bad was the accident? Not to the point of totalling the car, I assume? You were okay with driving it after that......and what are your feelings of replaced windshields----doesnt bother you that you no longer had your OEM glass?

"but that has nothing to do with the car's reliability."

Yes, I KNOW that.

"He said he had one brake light go out...no biggie. You don't try and sell your house because a light bulb burns out, things like that are expected to happen."

This is what he said:

"my 04 coupe had its 3rd brake light go out after owning it for approx. 14 months"

And I took "its third brake light" to mean THREE brake lights to go out.....

When someone says "third brake light" they are usually refering to the brake light in the back dash.

Yeah, I had an accident, cops blocking a lane around a corner, someone pulled in front of me, I slid in the rain, rear-ended them. $6K in damages. Yeah, it sucks, I wish it didn't happen, but it didn't change my perception of my car. Luckily the damage was limited to the front of the car, they did a great job on the repairs and it's fine.

Yeah, I wish I still had OEM glass, but no biggie. You can get an OEM windshield, it'll just be more money than aftermarket. (at least you could when the car was being manufactured, now that the 6th gen is out of production, I can't gaurantee that). But I didn't want to fork out for the OEM windshield, and getting it done the way I did didn't cost me a dime with my insurance.

I thought he meant three bulbs had gone down on him.

"Yeah, I had an accident, cops blocking a lane around a corner, someone pulled in front of me, I slid in the rain, rear-ended them. $6K in damages. Thank you for supplying the picture of your smashed Accord; mine actually looked much worse, and was $7K in damages, and yet the body shop fixed the car and it wasnt declared totaled; my whole front end looked wiped out. At any rate, it was raining in MY accident, too, when I was coming down a two-lane road (one lane in each direction) when a woman in an Avalon decided to make a left turn from the opposite direction AS SOON AS I WAS ON TOP OF HER and there was nowhere to go but into each other because of the sliding in the rain, as you had. It doesnt bother you that your car was fixed by a body shop and that it just doesnt well.....feel "original" anymore? What about your aftermarket skirts----how were those replaced in the fixing?

"Yeah, I wish I still had OEM glass, but no biggie. You can get an OEM windshield, it'll just be more money than aftermarket. (at least you could when the car was being manufactured, now that the 6th gen is out of production, I can't gaurantee that)."

I didnt know this; my ex brought me to a shop run by some guy she knew (a body shop) and they ordered the glass for me, but its definitely not Honda glass----my insurance covered it, though, with NO out of pocket expense.

"But I didn't want to fork out for the OEM windshield, and getting it done the way I did didn't cost me a dime with my insurance."

Yes, as with me too, as I described above, because we're covered for glass......
