Default To NOS, or not to NOS...that is the question

Ok, I am thinking of installing a nitrous setup on my car, 2000 EX V6 Coupe with about 76,000 miles on it. I take care of her better than my wife (or so she says), the engine is strong, getting ready to finish out the suspension system.

I have researched up and down my options, including engine swaps, superchargers, rebuilds, but bang for the buck I haven't found anything....

Nitrous, 40-70hp at a squirt, wet, dry systems. Some with safety switches to keep you from blowing up your engine, etc..

OK...opinions, not about me, about Nitrous as a system for instant short term power. I want 0-90, or that highway on ramp 30-90 flash. What is your experience.....

I'm not sure many here would have much first hand knowledge of Nitrous. However, I have found that over at ClubSI.com there is a really deep Nitrous forum lots of help, and it's not all Civics either.

I've been thinking about this as well, my thoughts are leaning toward a dry Zex kit; simply for the all in one price easy kit for those looking at a small shot only.

However, it seems like turbos, extra goodies and gauger are always welcome.

For the $ a 50 shot dry system is all you'll need.. I have a 99 2.3L Sedan with 65k on the engine and I have a 50 Shot Zex dry system. It will cost you alittle more then NOS brand but the Brain on the Zex kit monitors everything including fuel preasure which is one of the most common problems with Nitrous kits. If the fuel preasure lowers below a certain point the system will automatically shut down.. Pretty much ur lookin at $600-700 for nitrous or $2200-2500 for Turbo... If you have the cash for Turbo I'd say go that route.

I have a daily driver, mostly NORMAL driving...so the full time stuff isn't really what I want (gas mileage hit too). What I want is that every now and then PUNCH. I have also looked at the Venom kit but something keeps pulling me to Nitrous. I'm off to research the leads I have received here! Thanks. More experience, suggestions, welcome of course.

Do it if you don't care about your tranny. The engine can handle quite a bit of abuse.

Ok...back from my research. Major findings. Incorrectly installed kits can cause engine failure...severe. I have been in a car when the engine blows, it isn't fun. Fortunately, some of the newer kits are optimized for the bolt on street mod type, like me. I am attaching some links here that explain Nitrous, application issues, and FAQs. Ebay has some good pricing on ZEX and NOS kits, under $500.

Some FAQs about Nitrous (wet/dry)

I am going to get one, after I fix my cracked tooth!

Funny, I didn't read anything about the tranny, but I would think it would have a severe impact on it....throw off the sensor or something like that....but I would be more worried about a manual than an automatic. Back to my research.
