Default I've been told "it's just the Honda Jerks..."

I have an 02 Accord EX with the VTEC 4cyl. and auto tranny. It has 53,000 miles on the engine and we have owned it for a month. While driving along and then slowing to 5 to 10 mph, then accelerate, there is a hesitation for a split second as if the car bogs down then goes. I also notice this when slowing and turning a corner. It is really frustrating because this is the only vehicle that has exhibited this type of problem (other than my 78 Ford Granada I used to own).

I have been told by three other Honda Accord Forums that this is called the "Honda Jerks" and is normal; or it may be a tranny problem.

Can anyone shed some bright light on this issue. Evidently it is a common complaint with the VTEC engine.

Thanks,

It could just be the tranny trying to use 3rd gear, then deciding it needs to downshift. The hesitiation could be the car downshiftiing to 2nd gear. My '05 does this.

My 2000 coupe and brand new 2005 sedan do it too. I think it's probbly the transmission, not the VTEC, but who knows.

I agree, it is annoying, though I very quickly and unconsciously learned to avoid it by the way I apply the gas.

My tranny has been like that ever since I bought the car with 4 miles on it.
Our trannies have that speed gradiant thing.....( i dont think its called that ) but when you release the Gas the tranny will downshift to slow you down.

No. It's called 'grade logic control', and it will only downshift if the severity of the grade is enough or you're braking.

Why does your car 'bog'? It's probably because when you decelerate at speeds above 1100 RPM (no throttle at all), your fuel injectors cut off to provide greater fuel economy and assist in slowing you down. If you're rough on the gas and don't drive smoothly, you will notice a hesitation if you stab the throttle immediately as the injectors kick back on. How to avoid it? Drive smoother, your passengers will appreciate it and so will your car. And you'll get much better MPG.

It could also be transmission related, but I kind of doubt it. I'd have to feel it myself, but either way it's not a big deal.

Oh yeah, the the other Honda forums suck
