2003 Accord Dead Transmission
#11
I have a '99 that had the tranny replaced at 30K miles. It was a recall for that particular year I believe. I haven't really heard many great things about recent Accord transmissions, but the remanufactured tranny I have in there now seems pretty reliable.
I positively hate the way it shifts though. That lunge forward you experience when you let off the gas is unacceptable IMO. Honda has a lot to learn from the European makers as it pertains to trannies I think.

I agree with 98CoupeV6 about mass production and sure there are broken transmissions among BMW.

sky: That lunging went away when I got my 00 tranny....maybe they redesigned it for that year? I remember it used to happen with mine and especially when 2nd gear started to go.

The tranny on my 99 Accord V6 Coupe also just went to crap...only 57K miles and the car was absolutely not abused. Unfortunately, the car is out of warranty and the extended warranty only included 2000 and 2001s. The dealer wanted $3500.00 for a remanufactured tranny and installation. I called American Honda and they agreed to pay for the tranny if I pay labor which is $525.00.
Sure, other makes and models have their problems as well but if you take into account the recent various transmission recalls and/or extended warranties offered to Accords, Preludes, Pilots, CR-Vs, Odysseys, Acura TLs and CL coupes, it makes me believe that Honda Automatic transmissions might be something to worry about...my father-in-law has also had problems with his 2000 V6 Accord tranny. I'll probably never but another auto tranny Honda again...
