Default replacing wheel studs

Does anyone know how difficult it is to change wheel studs. I have a 99 Accord coupe and I just got some 17" rims. The problem is, when I checked to see if the rim would fit there wasn't any thread left to put the lug nut back on. Anyone know how much I should be paying to get this changed so the rim fits?

lengthened wheel stud is what you need.

now all you need is a DIY for taking them out.

somethings not right.. either the wheel pad is not sitting flush against your rotor or the wheel is not right for the car.

in any case, you'll need to remove the rear hub with a puller (same size studs won't need removal, but extendeds will).. and you'll need to remove the front hub (pressed) with a slide hammer. rear is easy, front is a bit of a pain in the arse..

I took it in to a local tire guy and they said that I'd need to get longer studs and then it should be fine. I didn't know where to go. wedley2 gave me an option. Does anyone know if a mechanic can get these for me?

doesn't sound right that any manufacturer would make the wheel pad so thick that it couldn't be run on standard studs.. it's a safety issue. i'm still leaning toward that the mechanic's assessment is off..

did you have aftermarket wheels before? did you have hubcentric rings already on there and forgot to take them off? check to see if the wheel bad is actually against teh face of the rotor..

if worse comes to worse.. here's the extended studs i use

I've had stock wheels ever since I've owned the car. These new rims I have are 17 x 7.5" What's the wheel bad?

There's a centering hub sticking out from the middle of the rotor. If the center hole in the rim isn't bored to the proper size, the rim hangs up there, instead of sitting properly against the flat mounting surface of the rotor. Get it?

If the wheel's center bore isn't the right size, then THAT is what you need to deal with. New rims have to match the bolt-circle AND the center bore diameter. Hubcentric rings are used when the center bore of the wheel is too big for the hub. If the center bore is too small, you can *MAYBE* get a machine shop to enlarge the bore, but that's not good unless you can find out for sure that it won't damage the strength of the wheel.

I just had all of my studs replaced at a local mechanics shop and it was only $50.

I thought that was a pretty good deal.
