Default AC and Idle problems

I am having problems with my 95 Accord...... When I have the AC on my idle is really rough and drops really low when I hear the fan come on it stalls out if I am stopped for to long. If I turn the AC off it will not stall but the idle is still rough and low. Does anyone have a problem like this and if so what was the problem??????

Well the problem most likely isn't related to the AC at all. The AC just accentuates the problem since it puts more strain on the engine.

I would do the basic stuff first: change spark plugs, clean your throttle body out, and dump in some fuel injector cleaner. If it hasn't been done already. If that doesn't work, it could be the IAC or something else.

Thanks for the help I will try the plugs in the morning. I just had the throttle body cleaned not to long age. Hopefully it is something easy to fix.

from your previous post I thought that you were going to change the PCV valve. Good way to see if its working is have the car idle and squeeze the hose that connects teh pcv to the iac and see if it clicks, if it doesnt, the pcv vavle needs to be replaced.

this information I got from the 96 Honda Accord Service Manual.

Well I checked the plugs this morning and not sure what # it is but the 3rd one over was covered in oil. I took it out and dried it off as much as possible and the car seemed to idle better. now I dont know why there would be oil in there. I had a valve adjustment about 5 months ago and they would have changed the seals right?

That's bad news, and probably the source of your problem. It could be worn valve guides, intake gasket sealing alignment, or worn cylinder walls and piston rings. A leak down test is a good place to start for what is causing this.

Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure if the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve is inoperative it can cause too much pressure buildup and shoot oil up into your combustion chamber. So maybe the PCV valve is your problem and the #3 cylinder is the only cylinder that is worn down enough to let oil shoot past the piston rings? So start right there. Go change your PCV valve and your spark plugs pronto! Then come back and tell us how it worked.

Problem there is that there is TWO sets of seals that can allow oil to get into the spark plug tube. there's the tube seals on the valve cover, and there are o-rings on the cam towers themselves. meaning you'd have to remove the rocker arm assembly to get at these seals. they also allow oil into the plug tube.

I changed my PCV valve and the new one seems to be a tad bit smaller than the orginal. Weird thing with the old one you couold feel something go up and down inside when you shook it unlike the new one...

any anwswers on that?

I actually had somewhat of the same problem on my 94 accord. When i turned on the A/C the entire car would shake kinda bad. I took it to honda and had them check it out during an oil change. The rpm was right where it should be, but turns out the rough idle was from a worn engine mount. I guess those rubber inserts crack after a while.
