The manual for my 96 Accord ex sedan says the fuel tank capacity is 17 gallons. Everytime i fill it up when it is on EMPTY i only get 14 gallons in it. The fuel gauge has always worked accuratly (to my knowledge). Anyone have any thoughts..?

 

You're right, the 5th gen does have a 17gal fuel tank
You probably already has 3gal. of fuel in the tank. The only DEFINITELY way of telling is if you run out of gas, then completely refuel.
Normally, when the gas light comes on you have approx. 2.5gal of fuel left.

 

yup gas light means about 2 gallons...has helped me alot, hehe...

 

My 97 is the same way. Don't worry about it.

 

yup thats correct.. usually Gen 5's have 16.5 gal or something according to owner's manual.. and when the gas light comes on.. it still has 2.5 gal left.
