Default OVERHEATED 5gen?

well i was driving to work the other day and when i parked my car i noticed that the car was over heating. the needle was a lil more than 3/4 of the way up.i checked the coolant and it has plenty, the fans are working well. another thing i noticed today when i got home it was overheated so i reved the engine up to 5 rpms and the needle dropped to half way. wtf????? anyone have any idea on what it might be? im thinking it might be the thermostat but i can be wrong. anyone have any ideas?
thanks

BTW i am a little crunched for time right now so i dont have time to do a search that will last me 4 hours.

Sounds like thermostat or water pump.

i have the same overheating problem...my fan doesnt' turn on, so i need to replace some sensor plug thing (greeen in colour near teh throttle body, 96 accord exr)

when the car is just idling, it heats up faster, versus when acutally driving

u may ahve a leak in teh rad, and it might need to be changed, get it checkked out before the head gasket goes

so you think it might be the radiator? it doesnt seem to leak or anything...and when im driving it in the morning to work it doesnt heat up untill its actually parked and idling. since i stay in my car for about ten min, till its time to clock in.
im going to try to replace the thermo sometime this week.

I had the same problem with my 96 LX. It was the sensor. Once changed, never had any problems with it.

is your fan spinning?...it sounds like a fan problem ..i had the same problem in a saturn
when i was driving it was at normal temperature because of the cool air coming in through the grill but as soon as i idle'ed it would overheat..my problem was the fan
you should check that first then i would check the thermostat and water pump..im still leaning towards the Fan tho

okay, when your idling and your needle starts to go up....check if your fan is spinning.....if it is spinning, then most likely a thermostat problem

if it is NOT spinning, then its the switch for teh fan

My fan wasn't spinning either. I changed the sensor, then it worked fine.
