Default Gauge needles? Supposed to light up?

Well I have't driven my 94 Accord for 6 months cause i've been at college and I was driving tonight in the dark and I noticed my needles for my spedemoeter and all that are not lit up. I can't remember if they ever were but are they supposed to be? And if they are not what usually causes this and how much might it cost to fix?

The gauges are backlit with small bulbs; but I don't believe the needles themselves get lit. If your gauges are lighting up, I believe you're fine.

The needles are lit. Not by an independent bulb but rather from the backlighting of the gagues

So can you guys see your needles at night? Cause I can't see mine anymore so I'm wondering if a bulb went out somewhere but I just didn't notice cause the main gauge lights still work.
