Searching on ebay everyday hoping someone is selling an alternator...hehe...

I'll post when she's fixed for good.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Just try not to drive with high loads on the alternator (IE driving at night with the lights on, A/C on, stereo on, etc). That's what will end up with you getting stranded. As long as your battery is in okay condition you should be fine for at least a thousand miles or so on your current alternator.

Oh yeah, and I believe the 99-03 TL and 01-03 CL alternators also fit on our cars...I think they're the exact same thing.

I just ordered the alternator off ebay for about $140. Probably a Delphi (same as the original). Called pepboys and they can do the installation for about $60 which I'm okay with paying. Will also look into replacing my battery after the alternator is installed and verified that the whining noise is gone.

It's definitely the alternator. Tell-tale sign is a high-pitched whining noise around 2K RPM.

And, no, NOT NECESSARILY did MY alternator go because of my power amp; like 98Coupe said, these alternators going are a problem on this generation car....at rather early mileages, too.....mine went at under 55K.
Luckily mine stayed with me 'till 92k mi. Although, the previous owner very well might have replaced it already!

Damn Sky,

92K is a good amount of mileage for the alternator to stay good.....although if you purchased the car used, as it seems you have, there is a good possibility the previous owner may have changed it out already.....is there any way of checking with him or her?

what possible difference would it make since he already replaced it

Mine lasted to 130k.

Yes this is true, in-fact you can not buy a non rebuilt alternator from
Honda. There is a three year warranty on rebuilt parts
like the alt, starters, calipers and drive-shafts. Did you say yours is
less then 3 years old?

Btw...any suggestions what I could do with my old alternator? rebuild it and ebay? Thanks.
