Hmmmmmmmm........thanks guys for all your replies; they are greatly appreciated......I was just wondering, though, because Im getting so many different answers, which would be the best way to go with regard to what to put in the car.....two members recommended listening to the manual and putting in whatever the lowest grade which is recommended; the other, I believe, noted that there wont be any increase in performance by putting premium in a '99 EX V-6; what would be the verdict here? The last poster said a friend of his feels a power difference in his 02 when he switches from 87 to premium, but what SHOULD these sixth generation V-6s run on? What SHOULD we be putting in them?

Is premium too rich for these cars, and is the "increased horsepower" rumor just bullshit? Should I just "save money" as another member suggested, and put in the regular shit?

Peace.

If in doubt, check the owners manual. Whatever it says to use, use it.

What Up Shmoo,

Thanks for the answer on this; I guess your analysis is what I will go with. No, on the gauge cluster it does NOT say (as all you Honda owners know) "Premium Unleaded Only" as it does say on my mom's Benz E320, or as it did say on my '91 Nissan 240SX when I owned one; I guess I will pump the regular gas then.

Thanks, Playa.

Guess this is what I wanted to know, BN.....if my salesman, back when I picked up the car on Halloween of 1998, was full of shit when he told me by adding premium, it will make horsepower jump to 205.....like that would make a difference anyway.....

I will listen more closely for pinging and rough running; and save money, as you suggest.....

Peace and Thanks.

:werd: on all of the above. don't waste your money on premium. with gas prices as high as they are save your self some money. only the 7th gen accord is effected by different gasoline grades. the 7th gens will advance or retard the timing based on the detonation of the gas. if you put in super on a 7th gen you will gain up to 10hp. with all other gen accords your just wasting your money.

true story.

I always thought 6th gen V6s required premium, but the answer should be in the manual. If not, then from a reputable source online somewhere.

For you guys dumping premium into your F23s, you might as well flush your money down the toilet. The guys that "claim to feel a difference"...it's all in their head.

It is hard to say without having ever used regular to compare. I would seriously doubt a 5hp gain from fuel alone--unless maybe you're comparing regular to 76 cool blue or something--but I don't know for sure.

BTW pm me if you are interested in getting rid of your underbody kit
Well I hate to say it but you've been wasting money from day 1 then. If you read the manual it states UNLEADED gasoline, 87 octane or higher. In the 6th gen (I-4), you will not notice a difference between premium or regular, the only thing that will notice a difference will be your wallet. If the car does not say Premium Unleaded or something, then you don't need it. I've had cars that required premium and used regular just to find out what happens, well you def. notice a difference not to mention the ping sensor, etc. But in the 6th gen, I used premium to see if there is any difference and I didn't notice anything over using regular. It runs just fine on regular gas. With the gas prices these days, save yourself the money. Go by whatever is written in your manual.

somebody needs to search cuz we did an in-depth like 15 page thread on this subject already in which me and another guy explained octane ratings, numbers, which gas to use and all that...bottom line, use what your manual says, anything else is okay but a waste
