Spark Plugs
My mechanic said it would cost $22 for each platinum plug for my 1998 V6 (w 106k miles on it). How much would these plugs cost at an autozone? Do you recommend I stay with these "platinum" plugs"

Unless theres something im missing, your mechanic is pulling the wool over your eyes. Honestly, id just get a set of Bosch premium plugs at autozone for ~ $1.25 a pop.

If you change your own spark plugs (free labor) then get copper plugs (NGK or whatever).
If you pay a mechanic to do it, maybe it's cheaper to get platinum so they last 3 or 4 times longer. Do the arithmetic including labor $$...

No No No please do yourself a favore and stay away with Bosch. Why would we put a German plug into a japanesse car? I can't tell you the number of Bosch plugs i have pulled out of hondas because of terrible missfires. Yours may be ok now but why waste the time and money on putting a plug in that won't last you another 105k? If your not willing to pay the cash for the NGK platinums which if you honestly think about it its not like they need to be changed every 30k than just put regular NGK non-platinums in.

I agree with Hondaguy, don't skimp on the plugs. But your mechanic
appears to be packing the price of the plugs, should be around $18.00
each from the dealer. Buy them on your own, then have him install them.
I'm all for shops making a profit off of parts, but a legit repair shop
will get 15% to 25% off of msrp. Anything above that is packing.

I think I found NGK Iridiums for $7ea. Advance or Autozone.
They did wonders for my Sister V6 Accord, replaced the OE NGK Platinums at 100k Mi with Iridiums, they seam fine over 2 mo. later--easy install too, even for the 6cyl. with the newer style individual coil packs.

$132 for 6 plugs????
Time to find a new mechanic. If he charges that much for a plug change, I'd hate to know how much he charges for other stuff.
