Um am i the only one that noticed that in my automatic 97 accord the shifter goes D4-D3-2-1. You can control when to shift by putting the car in 1 then accelerate till you hit desired rpm, i prefer 5000-5500 rpms then switch it up then 5500 again switch. I have beat ppl in drags many times like that. it gives u a boost when you control the gears

EDIT: remember to push that little button in when u do it from 2-3 and dont try shifting down unitl u stop u can blow out ur engine i think, or break something.

Wrong... you can trade or sell the car with the automatic for a car with a manual. A manual car similarly equipped with the same miles and condition... will actually cost you LESS. You would probably break even after paying taxes and registration fees.

depends on what kinda racing u do...i have a 2000 accord ex sedan, with an auto, and it's a 2 time autocross champ in the STS class... i've competed twice, won first place both times, and by pretty good margins both times...drag racing no, autocrossing, road racing in an accord, yes...with the right setup the thing handles great, just like the new TSX/Accord...yes it's big, yes it's heavier than smaller cars, but done right, accords can kick some ass. and it's alot more fun to do people dirty in an accord because accords aren't supposed to be fast...but that doesn't mean they cant be

automatics are not for racing....

repeat as necessary until your problem is fixed

::::
you can do that i believe with a chipped ecu/ engine managment like hondata or whatever, but why? it's an automatic, it knows what is good for itself, "let is sit and put problem done"

word..

hondata doesnt work with auto ecu's anyways.

even with autocross being able to 'engine brake' and control gears is an advantage.

Is there an actual mechanical connection between the auto shift lever and the tranny? Or is it the auto shift electronically connected to the ecu which mechanically shifts the tranny?

If you swap in a 5spd it stays in whatever gear you want, until you shift it!

true...

but i was refering to honda automatics, which are very tempermental.

not to mention enerally speaking MT's are stronger than most AT's anyway.... same money into a MT as an AT and you'll find the stronger one is still the MT... in most cases
