Yes, they adjustable in dampening. Instead of having 5 or so settings like the Illuminas they are basically infinately adjustable withing a couple turns of the supplied knob. Full soft to full firm with anything in between. So it's a bit different but basically the same concept, adjustable at the top of the shock tower, like the Illuminas.

As far as ride goes, I was using my H&R sports with the stock shocks before installing the Koni's and at full soft the Konis are just a bit more firm than the stock shocks over bumps, but the car is much better dampened even at full soft. I would recommend the shocks to anyone, mine have been great.

 

do you know how the SP3's perch adjustment range compares with the regular koni yellows? besides the fact that the regular yellows only have two perches in front and three in the rear, is the highest perch on the SP3's higher, and the lowest perch lower compared to the regular koni yellows?

i got regular koni yellows, and on my car (95 ex 4 door), the highest perches were WAY too low with H&R sport springs. the tires were almost tucked (stock EX alloys), massive camber problem, control arms hitting the wheel wells every 30 seconds... because i couldn't do anything about the height i just got new springs, H&R oe sport, and put them on the lowest perch. the car's pretty damn high now, but it was really my only option, given my un-employed budget.

 

I've never looked at the regular Koni yellows in person, so I can't say for sure, but I know that on the Koni SP3 shocks the middle perch is equivalent to the stock shocks perch (I measured to confirm while installing) and there are two perches above that and two perches below that with about .25" between perches.

 

The regular koni yellows have 2 perches. The upper one is equivalent to the stock shocks perch and the lower perch gives approximately an additional 3/4" drop.

I am also going to be mixing springs. Eibach sportlines up front and pro-kit in the rear with koni yellows on the lowest perch all around.

 

regular koni yellows have three perches in back, two in front, just fyi. and i can garuantee you that the highest perch -at least in front- is definately NOT equivalent to the stock perch on regular koni yellows. read my post above. regular koni yellows on the highest perch (front) were much lower than the stock shocks. and i went directly from stock shocks to koni yellows, so it's a pretty good comparison. the highest perch on the rear shocks might be the same height as stock, but mine were set to the middle perch so i wouldn't know.

 

On the 6th gen application, there are 2 perches. I know because I used to have them.

 

yea, i realized since you have a 6th gen, the shocks/perches could be different. so maybe they changed them and made the highest perch equivalent to stock for the 6th gen. for 5th gen they sure as hell aren't. but you also have to remember, just putting the two shock bodies next to each other and comparing where the perches are doesn't neccessarily tell you if they're going to be the same height after you install them. since the koni yellows have shorter shock bodies, the piston will most likely be shorter as well, which will means the springs will be compressed more to begin with, and will [probably] result in a lower drop.
