Default Engine whines at 2k RPM

This is a '99 Accord coupe (V6/Auto). The engine makes this whining noise at about 2K RPM - above and below that, it doesn't. I had it given the full inspection when I bought it (used), and it basically would qualify for their certified program because it was in such good shape. Is this just a Honda thing, or is there something not right? Also, what's up with that whining sound Hondas make when going in reverse? What causes that?

I think these are just normal sounds, especially the one car makes in reverse. Its just low gearing and that is why you get such sound. I believe it sound like when you a pushing an electric toy car without the bateries in it.

My 05 4cyl accord makes similar sound (especially when the car just warmed up - I never drive it cold). I think it is normal.

In reverse it happens because gears that are responsible for that never have a chance to broke in to each other.

Yup, you were right. Dang. Stupid thing dimmed out on me and left me stranded on the road too!

Replaced the Alternator, no more whine. Dealer said the same thing - that whining noise is your alternator dying. Guys, put this in the knowlege base.
