my friend went nuts in his 03 WRX in an empty parking lot after we got almost 6inches of snow. well, turned out there were little partitions of cement every now and then, which of course, he hit. -___- popped a tire and dented his rim, along w/ jackin up his alignment and rear axle. he ended up using that as an excuse to get new, gun-metal rims. haha.
on toP of that, we drove on some country roads near our school and found this one spot where it was unpaved gravel. soOo, being the smart guy he was, he tried to have a shot at it. he was drifting around (which looked real cool) but on this one turn he fishtailed, tried to correct his steering, spun out instead (idiot) and hit a boulder bigger than my accord coupe. no busting of tires this time, only messed up axle and a dent that looks like someone attacked his car w/ a sledgehammer. this time he used it as an excuse to repaint his entire car in the S2000 charcoal grey color. *sigh* never learns... >:]

I'm amazed at how good my Accord coupe handles on snow ice and dirt. Short of 6" deep mud it actually handles and has much better traction than my girlfriend's GMC Sonoma 4X4 with the offroad package.
A WRX is defintely the best way ot go, but if I had ot choose over a Jeep, SUV, Compact 4X4 pick-up or my Accord to get somewhere fast on dirt roads wiht less than 3" of mud... I'd actually take my Accord. It's better than my parent's FWD Highlander.
I'm not sure why... I'm guessing that it's the predictible throttle control and smooth power delivery, good steering feedback (for a midsized car), and better suspension set-up that gets the job done.
