yes something is wrong for sure, the car should not die right away even after the gas light comes on.

thanks.
i have heard of ppl having problems with the fuel sending unit. do a search on that and it may help you out.

i have a 5th gen, the guage will move alot if on inclines, or making a wide long turn, even if the take is close to full, but not while normally driving on level surfaces or braking, unless if you brake extremely fast. I get about 25 mpg, combo city and highway (city is alot of stop and go, and to add to that there is construction everywhere).

thanks all for the replies....will look into the "fuel sending unit"...i actually asked the mechanic about it when i went in for my 120k service....he basically talked about being on an incline and stuff....other than that...he wasn't much help...told me to bring the car back when my tank was close to empty....

boo...

don't really wanna spend more money on my car...guess i can live if the car dies when the tanks just getting low....grrr...plus my A/C doens't work on control #'s 1 and 2...3 and 4 work....wonder what's wrong with that....

You don't need a fuel gauge. You can use the tripometer/odometer. Most motorcycles don't have fuel guages and hte tanks are terrible small, so you learn to ride unti lyou get to 120-150 miles then refuel.

OS if you know what the typical mileage is for that tiem of year and road conditions, then just only use 10-12 gallons of ht ecqapacity and caculate your range based on that. SO if you get 30mpg on the freeway, you should refill between 300-360 miles without worry of runing out of gas. In city driing when getting 20mpg, you can stop safely after 200-240. Etiher way, your looking at at least 6 hours of fuel.

You should still be a ble ot use a conservative number like 18mpg to determine when you should refuel. So after 200 miles, you'll want to look for some gas. On the freeway, you should still be a able to go 250 miles.

For improving your mileage. The usal things such as air filter, spark plugs and clogged injectors can cause this. Be sure to use regular 87 octane.

Most of all how you drive makes a big difference. Look down the road, don't race up to lights, and use the gas pedal very smoothly. In most cities the traffic lights are timed so no matter how fast you go, you'll get there in the same amount of time... just drive the speed limit. Make only very small motions when holding a steady speed, let you car slow down a little going up hills and speed up on downhills. Keep you speed when possible over 35 mph to get it into 4th gear, and stay under 70mph. Follow all of these closely and you can imporve yoru mileage by at least 10%.
