Default Blinking "S" Light

hey all,

I have a 90 accord and I just replaced the motor a few weeks ago. I am using the stock tranny that had about 140k on it. I figured I woulld just drive it until the tranny died. I didn't think it would die this quick! Anyways, I started the car today and the "S" light on my dash started blinking and as I was driving I could get NO acceleration. Odd. I turned off the car and started it again and it went away and everything was normal. Wtf is up with this? This is my first time coming accross this. I think it may have something to do with my jacked up idling. I haven't figured that out yet. Car runs fine when in drive but if I put the car into park or neutral, it revs to 1500rpm and then drops every two seconds. I installed a cold air intake and so I know I am haviing a vacuum issue that may have something to do with all this mess? Help a brother out! TIA

uh the "S" light on the dash stands for "sport" shifting. it's the little button on the transmission shifter. When engaged, it allows for shifting at higher rpm's.

When the 'S' light blinks i means there is a problem with the tranny that's needs sorting, so it's sorta similar to the CEL. It's probably just coz u put a new motor in and the car is getting used to it.

If it is the speed sensor then the led on the computer on your 90 will be blinking the code for the VSS speed sensor. There are a bunch of different things that the computer self diagnoses on that car and blinks a code to tell you what is going on. Just pull up the carpet under the dash on the passengers side and it will show you the code (blinking led). Just do a search online about how to interpert the various patterns of blinking and it will tell you the problem.

Magnanpi, you may have a bad O2 sensor, the one in the exhaust manifold/header.

Well yeah it would. If you unplug the O2 sensor the CEL will come on immediately, and the car will rev up to about 1,000 or 1200 rpms. The computer goes to a default setting which is that high without info from the sensor.
