This how you tell if you alt if fuked.
Start your car and disconnect the freaking battery(Neg cable). If your car crap out on you then is you ALT...period.

As some may know, once the car is started... it dont use battery NO MORE, thats why we have ALT.

Don't disconnect the battery. The voltage regulator needs it, it acts like a big power-supply filter. Without it, you can get voltage spikes that might fry your ECU. Most likely it won't, but - do ya feel LUCKY???

Typically it takes so long to see the symptoms of a bad altenator, that by that time you've usually degraded the life of the battery as well. Typicaly soon after replacing the altenator, you'll probablly have to change the battery since it is a memory type battery. Memory batteries never go back to the previously full charge as when you bought it. So the battery has become use to the low charge from the old altenator.

I good symptom of the altenator going out is when the lights and accessories are on and you stop. The idle goes down and the lights go dim. Then as you press the gas the lights brighten up again. This is usually a beginning symptom.
