Are you serious?? Considering how litigation resulted in the requirements for brake/shifter/key interlocks, I ain't gonna believe this until I see it. It's just too common for the handbrake to let go. I can just see the lawsuits coming...

Best way to warm up the car is to drive it nicely. Only leave it running long enough to clear the windows so you can see.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The best way to warm up your engine is to just drive it. Dont beat on the engine, or gun it onto the freeway. Drive it nice and slow until it reaches normal operating temps. After that, feel free to do what you like. This is also what is recommended in the owners manual for my last 3 Honda/Acuras.

I dont belive that you would see anywhere that teh cars hould be put in gear, and the parking brake applied. First off, it wont warm teh car up quicker, in fact it will be slower, and secondly for the liablility reasons if the brake is not tight enough, or someone steps on the accelerator by accident. I call :bs: on that unless someone can show me something from Honda that says otherwise. I am quite sure nothing like that exists.

 

i was making a reference to another thread, where someone said his friend constanly revs his engine to 7,000 to show off... another words i was saying, "people do alot worse"

 

ok how about u guys try it. turn the car on pull the ebrake put it on D4/gear. time it and i bet u anything it will warm up faster and is safe if not it would not be n the honda book. personaly if i am on a hurry and the car is cold i would either do what i just said or like mrhyde said, drive away slowly.
i just read the manual and it says to put on D4/gear to warm up faster. when i find the other manual i will read it.

 

In gear with the handbrake - Yes, I believe it'll warm up little faster, but I don't think it's completely safe. There's other stupid things that are more dangerous than this, but still...

I've had owner's manuals with all 9 cars I've ever owned (Datsun, BMW, VW, HondAcura, & Saab). I've never seen that in any of them. In fact, there's a whole stupid section full of warnings about how not to hurt yourself. When there's a whole chapter about how to wear a seatbelt, do you really think they're gonna tell you to leave it in gear & walk away??

I think the part you remember is that it says to put it in D4 & begin driving.

Yup,... and the manual also says to use 87 octane on your car

In cold weather,..warm it up for 1 minute just to make sure that oil thins out enough and lubricates all the valves, pistons , etc.
Also, remember metals tend to shrink with extreme cold temps. and expand with heat. If someone revs their car past 3500 rpms @ 30 degrees or below,... they'll be decreasing the life of the engine with out even going anywhere. They stressed that if you think your car needs warming up,.. at least drive it somewhere,..you won't be polluting the air more than you have to by sitting down in your car.

They also said,.. in the warmer climates,...30 seconds is sufficient.

 

I let the engine warm for a minute, and then drive it easy for a mile or two before throttling hard. I listen to the engine to know when it's warm. The valvetrain makes more noise when it's cold; it kind of "rattles". When it gets warm the rattle goes away. All my Hondas have sounded similarly, so I presume it's normal.

 

under 2? uh oh .. i shift around 3 .. is that bad or? first time drivin my manual acura in the winter ..

 

No it's not bad. Actually the operators manual alos says not to "lug' the engine by running it under a certain RPM. ON the Accord, I would try to keep it over 1500, but under 3000 and don;t use more than 1/4 throttle if possible.
