Default $700 bux to change my timing belt?!?

Ok what the phuck. I went to this place called "Japanese something something repair shop" and the dude in there told me that i would have to pay atleast 700 for my timingbelt/waterpump/some seals/and other shit. I proceeded to laugh in his face and told him that i could just goto honda themselves and get it done for 750. The dude told me that he has to replace all kinda shit to make sure that my engine would last another 100,000 miles. So, what should i do? Im pretty sure that i dont have to replace all the stuff that he was telling me, but im not sure what not to replace. Oh, and i think my alternator is going out (its making a whining noise) but he told me that i might've just put my belt on too tight, and i should loosen it up a bit or it might break a seal or some shit. So what should a brutha do? I sure as hell dont have 700 chucks to throw at a new timing belt, and on top of that if my alternator goes out i cant pay the 300-380 he was asking for (is this phucker crookid or am i trippin?)
holla atcha boy.

That sounds pretty reasonable. You dont have to replace the waterpump, some never go, but you have to take the timing belt off to replace it anyways so they recommend you do it all at once to save future costly repairs. IMO if you cant do it yourself, pay the dealer or a trusted mechanic to do it right the first time.

oh man i hate ppl like that, they are so full of it. if u are going to pay anything over $500 for everything make sure is done by the dealer no one else. i had my new mechanic change all belts seals water pump everything the complete package for $200 and he did a beautiful job i even tip him for such a good job he did. he also change all fluid with honda genuine stuff. $200 for the labor i supply everything else which i got from theaccordstore all original honda stuff. "and on top of that if my alternator goes out i cant pay the 300-380 he was asking for "<--- they charge $50 the most to change/labor a alternator at least around where i live. if i were u i wouldnt go back who knows what kind of job he can do. i been to some japanese shops thinking they would know about honda and i get is i tell u the price once they find out how hard the job was heh.

Yeah, well my alternator just went out tonight. Im going to buy/install that myself since its not very hard. But the timingbelt, im still not too sure what i should do about that. I've been to a couple of places, and one told me that it would be about 350 to change the belt and pump, but the dude from the japanese repair shop told me that just changing those out is cutting corners and my car might not last another 100,000 miles. Im not sure if is trying to help me, or bullshitting to get my money.

I've paid 550 for timing, alternator, and a/c belts, camseals, and water pump. Also if you haven't replaced your distributor cap and rotors then you should think about that too.

I paid roughly $200 for a timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump and seals from the Honda dealership. My mechanic charged me $200 in labor (which was his standard charge) and did a fantastic job (I stayed at the shop and watched the entire procedure) Some people change the tentioners as well, but I left these alone for another 100,000 miles. As far as him telling you that your car might not last another 100k miles unless you have every single part replaced is utter BS. The timing belt/balance shaft belt are the only two essential parts that need to be replaced. Everything else is just precaution. In my opinion, just replacing the belts and water pump are more than enough for the first 100,000 miles. Come the second timing belt service at 200,000, then I'd go ahead and replace the tentioners, seals, etc. since these items will usually last the duration. I wouldn't trust that shop any further than I could throw them. They're clearly trying to rip you off, sell you services you don't need and fill your head with a bunch of crap. Good thing you came here first. Good luck.
