Default Bargain Bin Upgrades

Hey everyone. I just recently purchased a 2003 Honda Accord EX Coupe. It's a 4 cylinder, 2.4 L, 160 hp. I was hoping that some of you could suggest some parts to up the horsepower/torque. The car is quick, but it lacks the power of the Acura TL I was driving. Any low to midrange priced things I could buy?

And if you could refer me to some sites that offer aftermarket parts for Hondas, or really any car, that would be great.

Thanks.

Oh, and unfortunatly its an automatic, in case that has any bearing on what can and cannot be added.

There are things you can do, but they'll all cost hundreds of dollars and won't really make your car much faster. You can do basic intake and exhaust for at least $400 (for quality stuff) but it won't put the car anywhere near 225, 260 or 270 horsepower (depending on the TL). If you wanted a more powerful car, why in the world did you buy the 4 cylinder EX? 6 cylinder 240 hp LXs can be had for about the same price. And you can always add EX equipment to the LX, but you can't add the V6 to the EX.

I'm not looking to get to the same horsepower in the TL (It was about 240). And I don't need a really fast car. The 4 cylinder was what was availible and was much cheaper than a v6 (my car is slightly used).

I just want to make it a bit faster. Most of my money is going to go in to visual mods.

The TL never had 240. It has 225 from 99-03, 260 in the 01-03 Type-S, and 270 in the 04+.

All I'm saying is that you can buy a V6 for about the same price as the EX if you shop around...they have about the same sticker prices and similiar depreciation. If you want to make it a bit faster, put an intake and exhaust on it...an AEM CAI will run you about $250 new and according to them only nets a 3 HP peak gain and 7 right near the VTEC engagement point. You won't gain any low end torque from this. As far as exhausts...I'm not sure what there is for the K24, but in general you'll get about 6 or 7 horsepower. Then you can buy a header (the pipes that transfer exhaust gasses from the engine to the exhaust piping) for $300 or so and get about the same. So for $1000 or so installed (unless you can do it yourself) you'll gain about 15 or so horsepower peak. Or you could get a V6 and get yourself 80 more.

Here's a dyno of the AEM CAI: http://www.aempower.com/pdf/dyno/21-...rd%204-cyl.pdf

Then it was 260. 240 was a rough guess as I was never too much into it.

Thanks for the info.

Oh, and I didn't really expect to get that much gain from upgrading. I just want a little more pop when I hit it. Like I said, most of the money I have saved for this is going into visual mods. I've already driven a decently quick car (the TL) so now I'm going for style

I've found a few online stores with some cool parts but nothing too amazing yet, so if you know anywhere, that'd be great

Once again, thanks for the info.
