Taken out by drunk driver
This was a wonderful and horrible weekend at the same time. On Saturday afternoon, around 1pm, me, my 2 children and my uncle drove up to Oroville in my car to visit some family we hadn't seen in a while. It was fun seeing my grandma, aunt, uncles and cousins, we all enjoyed each others company and had a blast. At around 8 or so, my cousin offered to go pick up some pizza so we all could go back to her place and grub, which we did. At around 9:15pm, me, my kids and my uncle said our goodbye's and drove my grandma home(about 3 blocks away) and said our goodbye's there too. At approx. 9:30pm we got on the freeway(Hwy 70 south) and headed home. We drove for maybe 10 minutes or so when all of a sudden a car that was headed northbound on Hwy 70(which is a 2 lane hwy) quickly swerved over directly in front of me, I quickly braked and turned the wheel in an effort to avoid the collision but couldn't. We hit head on. I remained conscious throughout and when we finally came to a stop I checked on my kids and made sure they were alright, which they were, and then I noticed that my uncle was unconscious and having a hard time breathing. I then began attending to him, hoping he'd regain consciousness, which he did after about 45 seconds or so. He was pinned in pretty bad and none of my doors would open up so they had to use the jaws of life to open up the car and get us all out. I stayed in the car with my uncle as long as I could before they made me get out so they could finish getting him out. He passed away in the emergency room from the multiple blunt force traumas he sustained. I LOVE YOU UNCLE AND HOPE YOU KNOW THAT I DID ALL I COULD TO PREVENT THIS, REST IN PEACE, I LOVE YOU!!!
My children sustained the normal bumps and bruises, lacerations from the seat belts and are feeling the aches and pains now, especially my son. I am ok physically, except for feeling like Andre the Giant is sitting on my chest and collar bone, my muscles are sore and my right arm is all scraped/cut up from the glass and stuff and I have massive bruising from the seat belt. It's the mental part that's difficult for me, knowing that my uncle is gone, second guessing my actions and thinking that there was something I could have done to prevent this.
There is good news though, the driver of the full size truck that hit me and killed my uncle was found to be drunk and under the influence of drugs also and was arrested after his examination at the hospital. I can't express how saddened I am by the loss of my uncle and all the grief me and my family is going through, but I know it's nothing short of a miracle that my kids and I were able to walk away from that wreck with the injuries we have. I know my uncle is in a better place now, a place that is free of the pains of life and I know he's got everyone there with him in tears from laughter, that's my uncle.
I love you Uncle Tony, you will not be forgotten

Freaking drunker should get hang or fry. RIP to your uncle, its very fortunate your family is still ok, it could be worst. I hope you get better soon.
Question, did your SRS deployed? I didnt see you saying any about it.
Anyway take care of yourself and your family.

Im very sorry about your loss. I cant imagine going through something like that. It just proves how dangerous drinking and driving is. And I hope that driver gets what he fully deserves. But at least you and your kids were able to make it through. Good luck.
