a good/easy way to test a start is get a test light and ground the test light out and then touch the positive connection on the starter.. got power? if not fix the power wire.. then re-test... BUT if you do get power.. put the test light connection on the POSITIVE battery side and touch the STARTER to test for a ground connection... got a good ground? if not fix the ground issue... BUT if you have everything good (power/ground) your soleniod is bad thus meaning get a new starter!

 

You can also take off the little signal wire at the starter. Put your test light from there to ground, have someone turn the key to 'start'. The light SHOULD lite up, otherwise fix that circuit from the ignition switch out to the starter.
