My 6Gen 4door: check sig for mods

I'm not an advocate of street racing at all, but my roommate and I decided to give our cars a run since he just got his Scion. But this is what is driving me crazy. I raced my friend on this 4 mile stretch of highway from a redlight. At green we were dead even when my auto was in 1st gear, but when it switched to 2nd gear, i started pulling and pulling until finally I beat him by 1 car length. Why? He even told me that he was surprised that I beat him, considering that he has 160HP and weighs almost 200lbs less than me. What do you guys think?

does breaking the car in have anything to do with speed?

Well, I don't think it is shocking that you won.....Depending on how well he drives, and his transmission (was it a stick or an auto?), your cars are pretty well matched. Cars generally get a little faster with age because the engine breaks in even after the first 1,000 miles. There is a point when engines start losing performance, but given you car's age, I doubt it has a ton of miles. Is he rethinking his choice of cars now? LOL

probably the main reason that you won is that your car is far more areodynamic than his.

actually the car is even faster at 30k, if you look in car&driver or whatever and they do those road tests...they have a comparison as when the car was new and after 30k.

the tc was an auto.

That's the problem right there. If he wasn't swithing gears manually like you maybe he would have kept up. Cause i was facing my friends taurus and i beat him by 2 car lengths and cause i was shifting. I also have an auto. His is auto but he can't shift like we can. SO i think that's why we can pull a lil on auto cars which don't have that feature or the people don't know how to use it.

I definitely agree with you on that. Last I checked (yesterday evening, when my mom got home) 6th Gen Accords with automatic transmissions did not come equipped with the shiftronic/tiptronic automatic transmission, like the automatic 5th gen 'Lude's.

I'd like to believe I know something about Accord's, seeing as how that out of the last 6 vehicle's my parent's have bought, half of them have been Accord's, and only one of them was not a Honda.
