Default My 94 Accord 5th Gen Problems

Okay overall this car has had no major problems except for a leaky water pump when i first bought it last yar (69 K miles...not bad for a 10 year old car)....now it has 97 K miles and the same problems ive had since ive bought it.

Heres a list of the problems it had

Power Windows very slow (Even slower in park then in drive)

Power Antenna stuck halfway up (Got this fixed)

Door conveinence light wouldnt shut off because driver side door didnt close all the way (Got this fixed. they had to move the whole hinge that the door latches onto more towards the inner area of the door jam)

Glove box light turns on and off randomly while driving

When in first gear (i have an auto) i hear a like...thumping noise right when i hit about 2000 rpm. its wierd. when i bought it they said they had no idea what it was

Fuel tank/ gauge problems- Okay when i look in the manual for my car it says the gas tank holds 17 gallons of fuel in the car. However when i fill up i get about 11 gallons in and then its full. Its not a misprint because it says 17 on every spec site there is (MSN, Yahoo, Auto Trader)
Also with the thing it acts wierd. When i first got it the gauge line would go down about 1/4 of a tank randomly for about 10-15 minutes. and then gradually go back to normal. Also ive never seen the gas light come on when the car is on "E". i dont think its broken.

-Other Misc Problems ive never seen any1 mention

Okay ive never seen this one anywhere...when its really cold here in massachusetts and ive been driving around for a little bit and put the car in park, the engine starts going crazy. its starts reving by itself to about 2500 rpm pretty quickly and then goes back down to idle and repeats. this keeps going on till i either turn it off and turn it back on. the engine only acts crazy when its in park or neutral...ive found this to be really wierd

Oh yeah the other problems were that the center console top broke on one side from the console it self, and the center arm rest in the backseat broke off the hinges and it wont go back on.

by the way i have a.....

welcome to the world of an old car, most of that stuff is just having a dated car. i replaced my atenna, my latch on glovecompartment is screwed up so the light is always on. fuel tank problem is always a honda problem.

i think thrs a "reserve" tank, not quite sure though. for that thunping noise...tranny problem?

i knonw that on my dads camry that when it shift to 2nd, it throws you foward and thats common for toyotas.

Power Windows very slow (Even slower in park then in drive)My windows are slow too, mainly the front passenger side, the rear ones are fine. This is common with our car(I have a 94 LX)

Power Antenna stuck halfway up (Got this fixed)Another notorious problem with our cars, mine isn't stuck but it grinds when it gets fully extended or retracted. I plan on doing the S2000 conversion at some point in time.

Glove box light turns on and off randomly while driving Yep, same here! Take a look at the latch assy and see if you can tighten in at all. The problem is that the damn thing doesn't close all the way like it should, similar to your door problem.

-Other Misc Problems ive never seen any1 mention I have a cold starting issue. When it's cold out, my car starts up very rough, sometimes sounding as if the spark plug wires are crossed. In temps above 60, this is not an issue. Yesterday it was kinda cool in the morning so I turned the key to the one position for a few seconds and pressed the gas pedal twice and then started it up and it fired right up:dunno: Sometimes, the damn thing won't even start when it's real cold out, won't do anything:angry: It rarely happens, but when it does it pisses me off.

What else? nothing. Has been a very reliable car for me.

ive been reading on here about the buzzing noise at like 1800 rpm i dont know if thats it. yea my transmission was slipping pretty bad just recently. but they replaced the fluid and the filter and now it works fine again....i cant remember if the noise still happens..

oh by the way...do u think i should mod my car? im going to tint the windows and replace the front speakers (i got sony 6X9 for the back) and get a sub or 2. i mean... i like the 5th gen style but i want a 6th generation coupe....but i cant afford one yet. i was thinking...try to save about 10 grand in a year and a half and take a 5 k loan to get a 15 K car. like at least a 2000 or 2001 (new style celica, eclipse spyder, is 300, 3 series, RSX type S, TSX, Civic SI, TL type S, CL type)....plus a few others

but my car is cool except i want....rims....mugen lips...painted a dark dark color (ive noticed that the 5th gens look better dark or colorful...dont look very good in gold)...two tone leather seats....plus a bunch of minor other things like trim kit and grille and stuff. but thats the main things....but i think it might be a waste of money. cuz itll be like putting 5 grand into a 10 year old 94 while instead i could save that 5 grand and drive the stock looking thing and get something else. the main reason i like it is cuz my step dad is the service manager at a honda dealership so i get like free repairs from him.

i dont race alot but i kind want my car to be as fast as like a new Civic Si. like my car with 200 hp. but i have no idea how to gain 55 hp without spending big money on a turbo or H22. thats y i want 2 get rid of it.

but damn everytime i see ones fully done JDM style it makes me wanna keep it and mod it again lol...damn it

most of those problems are not even a problem but a easy fix that happens with age, for windows going slow is normal after so long it needs the window tracking ruber thinging to be replace thats $30 each so thats = $120 to get all 4 windows fix on a 4 door. the door closing problem is another easy fix which i had that problem since day one i got my 96accord and fix it next day. glove box light on and off is another problem i had when i got my car the fix was just change the screw and if the screw is not the problem u can make ur own resolution since is just a simple glove box. Fuel tank/ gauge problems, i never have experience any bad problems there other than a good thing, i can drive on E for lots of miles. <--- this are simple common problem from a honda is the car has been taken care and from what i see i dont think that car u got has been taken care. a honda with that little miles shouldnt have any mechanical problem if it has been taken care good like replace all belts water pump, regular tuneup etc... and this thing has to b done righ . the transmission problem u describe sounds like a abuse tansmission and especially a auto so probably is going bad also make sure the transmission fluid has been change and with honda ATF only. i change mines last week and i notice how smooth it is now compare to the aftermark fluid it had before. my car has now 81k . btw theaccordstore.com has all the things that need to b fix/replace on any accord.

Yes, the 6-speaker system was an option. I've got the same setup.

Are you sure they don't work? I can never get my ear close enough, alway bump into the windshield

lol, its up to you to mod your car. if you want to do it, go right ahead but if your going to save up then dont bother because selling a car with mods has like no resale value. i would so some minor upgrades for daily driving that could easily be replaced back to stock and get that 6th gen coupe. best coupe ever made.

good luck.
