Default 1998 stock radio swap

I have a recently acquired 98' EX-V6, as you know it has the single cd radio headunit. I want to keep the stock look, and upgrade it to the 6disc changer found in the 01-02 EX's.

I know this is a fairly easy swap, probably the biggest concern is to not loose any of the clips/screws behind the dash... and prior posts have said that they have done this successfully.

My only question/doubt is: will my controls on my steering wheel still work?

It is my understanding that they WILL work, and that it is just one wire from the wheel controls, and since the harness is the same from 98-02, and my harness in my car has it, it will work with the newer radio with the exact same plug.

Thanks!

Just as a side note, anybody know if there is any "performance" updgrades when comparing the '98 head unit and the '01/'02; (other than the 6-disc capability). Such as more wattage going to each channel, etc?

Some have said the 01-02 head units were made by Alpine I think, the older 98-00's were panasonic or pioneer or something. Someone else also said that the newer one sounds a little bit better, so perhaps it has like 5 more watts or something..

Hopefully I'll be able to find out!

the 98-00 single CD, double DIN head units were made by Alpine... 01-02 6 disc units were pioneer.

The steering wheel controls WILL work with the new deck, but dont ever expect to add another changer to it, as the 6 disc in dash unit does not have a changer port.

Everything will be a direct fit.

Right, I know that the 01-02 changer HU doesn't have another changer/input port on the back. I'll be all set with the 6disc, now if it only played mp3's as well that would be PERFECT! Oh well, can't have everything, I'll gain a tape deck and 5 more cd capacity, perhaps a touch better sound.

Of course there is the option of a tape adaptor to the output of a mp3 player... I know that will sound not so great though... or an fm modulator.

One more question:

Does anyone who has an 01 or 02 accord tell me what color the head unit 'glows'? Is it the orange color? Or did they do a different color in the 01-02's?

Thanks!

It's not amber. It's a pale gray/green like the climate control buttons and the odometer.

This may seem like a thread hijack, but anyone know where and how much I could get one of these '01/'02 head units?

"Is it the orange color? Or did they do a different color in 01-02's?"
To me, the above quote implies that you're saying the '98-'00's glow orange. My '98 does not glow orange, it's a pale green. A little confusing, but whatever.
