Default Braking at fast speeds cause shaking in steering

When I brake in my 99 accord ex v6 and it is usually when I'm going like 60 or 70 and downhill, my steering wheel shakes like crazy and doesn't feel safe. Now, I'm not flooring my brakes and activiating the anti-lock....something just doesn't feel right...any ideas?

check to have your rotors resurfaced and possibly new brake pads

I have this problem. It started right after I dropped the 17x7 wheels and 215/45-17 tires. My mechanic said when he mounted them "I'm not trying to sell you anything, I swear, but chances are if you want your tires to wear evenly, and want the optimal driving xpernce you need a front end alignment."

I still haven't gotten one, but I don't worry about it.

very true, an alignment can be the issue as well. I had this "shaking" problem too, on my 94 Accord and it was warped rotors. But I have heard of improperly mounted/balanced tires causing this problem as well.

I wouldn't so much call it improperly mounted/balanced tires, as they were properly m+b'd. It's just the weight and rim/tire size changed and the car isn't used to it.

unbalanced tires will yield vibration (usually between 50-75), but the vibration is consistent in that it's present whether or not you step on the brakes.

if your steering wheel shakes only when braking at higher speeds, then it's warped rotors.

My statement was in general, not directed at you or your situation
