You will definately improve ur times with the new wheels. It will make a HUGE differance.

Breaking before the turn is the way to do it IMO although I find myself adjusting the speed during corners as well. From what I read our cars are supposed to handle their best with no acceleration and no braking. Perhaps a light tough of break if anything but definately not acceleration. I used to think that FWD will turn better if u slam the gas but thats just a way to spin my tires while understeering LOL.

I know the e-break is a tricky technique. I did it during my second auto-x thinking I can do a rally style sideways approach to a ~90deg turn, Instead of going through it fast My car bogged down sideways and had to stop its sideways motion before going forward again. Now its just a slight touch to get the nose pointed in the correct direction. Seems like u have a lot more runs to practice on We only had 3 since a nice type-r nailed a wall and delayed the event. The type-r actually crashed at a sweeper like u mentioned since he lost control of his rear end. We felt sooo sorry for the guy. Keep me updated on ur events and I will do the same. What mods do u have to ur suspension? Seems like we can learn from each other.

 

jschmid: Have u thought about taking the entire PS off?? Do u think it will be too hard to turn the wheel, especially while parking the car on 225 18's, even too hard to turn on slaloms while racing?

 

again, you learn better on crappy tires. I'm on my 9th auto-x in a 100% stock accord, and the last thing on my mind is getting fast times. I came to the past BMWCCA event to take advantage of the seat time gained from 7 runs. Going to grippy tires prematurely only steepens your learning curve...

for 90 degree turns, I'm more concerned about getting the car positioned correctly before entring it, so I can power thru it. This involves letting off the throttle early and using the brakes as little as possible, since they slow you down.

Once the car is positioned correctly and your entering the turn the right way, you should be able to accelerate thru it while understeering. You pretty much want the turning arc to be as wide and smooth as possible, and using the ebrake doesn't do that...

It's 100% stock with the tires that came with it When I destroyed 2 18" wheels+tires on the street, I decided to hold off on putting them back on since I could take this opportunity to start learning on stock tires, and avoid the 4x4 look... Eventually I hope to keep the nice 18" wheels for the street, and hopefully get the widest used 16" wheels I can find and slap Azenis on them, when I'm ready...

 

I want to try to autoX sometimes to. I normally take my turn using E-brake and left foot braking. Weird but the turns are easier.

 

No...I drive my car everyday, I've only autocrossed a couple times, so everday use is my main priority.

I'm not sure how hard it would be to steer without the PS.
