Max Tire width for 6th Gen Cp?
Hi everyone I’m a newbie on this board. I've owned Accords for years. My 1st was an 88 Lxi, but this is the first one that I'm realy going all out on. I have question I hope someone has experience or insight in.
I have an 01 AV6 Cp and just received my new wheels. They are 17x7.5 with a plus 40 offset. Of course the stock wheels are 16x6.5 with a plus 50 offset.
I’m considering going with some Kumho 711’s @ 235/45/17. This tire size or the 215/50/17 will have the least impact on odometer accuracy, I prefer the wider track though. Additionally, I know I will eventually lower the car about an inch with an HR OE Sport – Neuspeed/Koni sp3 setup.
The –10 offset should mitigate the 1 inch difference in new wheel widths over factory, at least inboard (tire/wheel facing the wheel well). It’s the outboard increase that I’m concerned about with this tire size. I’m sure the wheel well will clear it after lowering. It’s the extreme turning that I’m wondering about, scrubbing and such.
My question; Is anyone running 235/45/17 with one inch or more lowering on a 6Gen Coupe with no issues or anyone see any potential problems with this setup?

I havent lowered my car though so thats probably why.

215/45/17s should be fine, I'm riding on those and there are no rubbing issues at all. are you looking to get about the same diameter as your 16 with those tires on? or bigger? you could also get away with 205/50/17 and 225/45/17 to stick with roughly the same diameter as stock.

How about 225/50/17 or 215/50/17? They are only .2" larger in diameter over stock. The 235's will be pushing it, esp with 40 offset 7.5 wheels. Plus the 225/50 is closer to stock size than 235/45's.
215/45/17 = 1.1" smaller diameter
215/50/17 = .2" smaller diameter
225/45/17 = .7" smaller
225/50/17 = .2" larger
235/45/17 = .4" smaller
(I have no idea as far as availability of each tire, just spouting sizes )
I have 225/40/18's with 18x7.5 +45 offset wheels, and am lowered 2.0F, 1.5R. I never rub up front when turning, etc. I only slightly rub in the rear on the fender and rear bumper tab. More so on the tab. I never rubbed until I corrected my camber, but bringing the rear camber back to stock caused the top of the tire to be closer to the fender/bumber.
Even at stock height, if you have passengers and take a hard corner, you'll rub because the suspension will compress enough for the tire to rub on the fender.
My advice: Try to find some higher offset wheels if you haven't already bought them, and run no wider than 225.

Thanks for the posts all. With the input I read here, I think I will go against my nature and be conservative. I've already purchased the wheels, so I'm going with the 215/50/17. Unfortunately 225 is not available in 50 series, it would've been my first choice. 225/45’s and 225/50’s seem to be an oddity in 17” tires.
On the plus side, there will be more rubber between the road and the wheels. I would hate to subject them to a greater chance of bending from potholes than necessary. The downside is there is an increased chance of curb scraping. Despite the offset, a small portion of the wheel protrudes beyond the lip. Got to be more careful.

woah! you have 17x7.5" with a 40mm offset??
When you put them on how far do they stick out?? I would guess quite a bit.
I have 17x7" with a 40mm offset and mine stick out even with the outer edge of the fender. They are still tucked in under the car but are even with the outer edge of the fender. I would think that the 17x7.5" and 40mm offset would stick out just past the fender.
Do you still plan on lowering it??? I want to lower mine but I don't want to go more than an inch or I will have serious rubbing issues. If I drop too far the fender will be riding on top of the tire.
I am planning on getting H&R OE springs for a .75" front and .5" rear just to clean up the gap but I'm afraid going lower will cause me to rub especially in the rear on any bump I go over.
If you do decide to lower post another thread and let me know how it works out I'd be interested to see how much drop you can get before rubbing.

Had them installed last week and I actually like the half inch they stick out from the well, gives the car an aggressive stance to match the raked lines of the 6Gens.
Mounted Toyo Proxies TPTs on the Azev's instead of the Kumho's I had planned on. The shop owner said he preferred them over 711's. For the small price increase they def look a lot better, and I’m pleased with their performance. $525.00 drive out w/ road hazard & life time balance and rotation.
Now to tackle that high-front/low-back wheel well gap Honda seems so proud of. I too will use the H&R OE Sports to at least level it out. Not really interested in lowering. Once the wheels were out from under the wells, kind of looked lowered anyway.
Here's how the +40 offset looks with 17x7.5. This photo angle actually makes them look like they stick out further than they are.
