developing a squeak in 97 front end
I live in Canada and the roads are very ruff this time of year. My 97 has stock supension, and I am now developing a rather annoying squeak in the front end of my car. Does anybody know what this might be. I think I had something similar on a 86 prelude once. I think it was a ball joint. Thanks,

I had the same problem and drove around with it for a while before I had it checked out. My mechanic told me that the ball joints were bad, and that they had to be replaced. Since then I haven't had the same problem that you are describing. I think it cost me $350 to get all upper and lower joints on both sides replaced. Good luck!

I would definitely say it's your ball joints.
Have someone sit in your ride and turn the wheel, while you put your ear somewhere on the top of your rim to see if it's the upper ball joint.
Then do the same for the lower ball joint,.. ear next to the bottom of your rim.

What does it sound like? A metal on metal squeak like the swings at a playground?
In my case, I may have to resort putting the car on jack stands, pre-loading the front left using a jack, start the car up, and see if I can get the noise to occur...

Try hitting the bushings with some Silicone Spray. My Accord used to squeek on dips in the cold also, and silicon spray solved it for me. My squeeking sounded like springs creaking/squeeking. It went away in the warm, and came back in the cold.

I think that may be it, I had it in a garage the other day for a couple of hours and when I took it out it was fine. But after being in the cold for a few more hours it started again. THanks for the idea.

I am having same problem. My noise comes from the front right suspension At first thought it was the bushing in lower control arm. I replaced the whole arm. Noise came back a few days later. Was in garage for 2days no noise right after removing from garage. The next morning in freezing cold it sqeeked like banshee. The problem is most likely a bushing due to the problem of rubber expanding and being more pliable in heat, and vice versa in cold. Will keep you posted on what I find.

1990 accord squeaky drivers side
I developed some mean squeaks coming from the drivers side front wheel. I had the upper control arm replaced, and it was completely quiet for an entire week.
A week later, the squeaks came back, so I assumed it was the lower control arm bushings.
I sprayed some silicon lubricant on the lower 2 bushings and the squeak was immediatley gone........until the next day. Now I'm back to the mean, embarassing squeaks, which I close the windows and crank up the tunes to avoid hearing right now.
My question is though........can you easily replace the lower control arm bushings on a 1990 accord, without taking off too many parts? I looked in my haynes manual, but you know how they are. Any advice is helpful before I put my car on jacks, bust out the coveralls and crack open the beers.

It could be the balljoints.
It could also be the struts if they are the original and getting old and worn out.
It could also be the strut mounts. When you replace your struts (if they need to be), go ahead and replace the rubber mounts too.
