Have you thought of haveing the tranny looked at?
It may just need a cable adjustment or something.
Have you changed the fluid?
I'd go to the Honda dealer and non-dealer tranny shop.
Get quotes from at least 2 places for the problem. Going to more then one shop will help limit scamming. Be up front about the estimate thing too.
No matter how you look at it, even if you need a new tranny, it's cheaper then a new car.

go to www.V6performance.net look for "attention all av6 users" on left hand side of main page and check out the details on this tranny.
They are going to sell a upgraded tranny for the Accord V6. It will be a direct bolt-up tranny, no mods required. Price is somewhere around $4,000 - 5,000 but it will be BEEFY as hell..limited slip diff, hi-po torque converter, high grade clutches, etc. They say it may even chirp 1st to 2nd shift. Increased Rear Wheel power and Torque also. It is in a prototype stage and they are dyno testing and about to install it in a roadcar for testing. the roadcar will have more than 200hp so if it lasts in that car it will surely last in our stock 200hp cars.....i HIGHLY recommend you visit the site and tell ALL the people w Accord V6 to visit and support V6Performance in their marketing of the TRANNY. Site is really cool too.

and actually that's when I started noticing the problems with the transmission. It started acting up after the fluid change. The fluid was a light black in color so I felt like I had to change it ASAP. I used Dexron ATF as a temporary replacement. By the time I got my hands on the genuine honda transmission fluid a couple days later, the transmission was already performing poorly. Since then I have flushed and filled it three times with genuine honda ATF and it's still performing like chit.
I got a quote on a complete transmision flush from honda today, $635

You should have just run the old original Honda fluid and not used the Dexcron. My GM uses Dexcron III but if I recall Hondas have a special fluid and no filter. I always stick Honda fluids in my Honda.

BTW have you heard of a 97' Accord vtec transmission bolting up to a 99' Accord vtec.

I'd have to imagine the autos are very-very simaliar, both are 4 speeds. The actual gear ratios may be different, but just a bit. But the VSS(Vehical speed sensor) should adjust tach and speedo accordingly. I'd crawl around under your car find all bolts and mounting holes with a light and take pics. Then compare this to the tranny your uncle has. If everything looks the same you should be good. Another key issue: are the trannies from the same ODB type cars? This could affect if the engine uses any tranny sensors.

Have you thought about selling your uncles tranny on ebay, trade yours in on a core charge to save costs?
Then you could get the exact same tranny as you have.
But investigating you uncle's is well worth it.

I thought 6th gen autos were completely different from 5th gens...especially since the 6th gens have a rocky track record for tranny failure. I change AT fluid in my 1996 Accord every 35k miles (drain and refill, no flushes) and no problems so far in 100k+ miles. 5th gens tend to shift a bit rough, but it's completely normal. If the transmission are the same, did they just use better stuff in the 5th gens?
