So I'm guessing there is no filter that needs to be changed...

BTW, is it true that with manual transmissions you need to change the fluid every 30k?

You have to be careful because some synthetics are TOO slippery and doesn't let the syncros engage properly, and I've known people who've had more problems using sythetic oils in Honda trannies than using conventional fluids.

CivicSiRacer's right about synthetics being bad for some trannies. The thinner oil works against the synchros because they need viscous drag in order to do their job. With less drag, the synchros won't adjust to other gear's revolutions as fast during shifts, resulting in possible grinding of gears on high rpm shifts. You don't want to bruise your synchros, because once they are, those gears will always grind.

I broke my GSX in with 90w gear oil, and then switched to BG Synchroshift II (40w synthetic) as reccommended by the speed shop that built it (with dual-synchros for high RPM shifts). 90w was quieter, and the shifter felt stiffer, but produced a lot of heat. I could shift from 2nd to 5th without a grind. 40w gear oil allowed me to hear the bearings, but I couldn't skip gears anymore without grinding. Less heat, though.

You're not supposed to skip gears, that's also bad for synchros. I just did it to make sure he built it right and noticed a drastic change between different gear oils. Synthetic is comparatively thinner to conventional oil of the SAME WEIGHT, so you could experience this.

RedLine is good oil. I like BG products, myself. If you're not making twice the horsepower in your civic than it came with, Honda MTF is optimal, but 40w motor oil will work.

Yes, change it at least every 30,000 miles. I change the GSX every oil change because of the abuse it endures, and still, I have yet to have a tranny last more than 7k miles. Sux because it costs $50 for enough oil to change it. And $2600 for my tranny.

About 400-500 5kRPM AWD launches with a motor that produces 320lbs of torque @ 19 PSI. I shattered a SS Lancer EVO IV shift fork and rail assembly. It's rebuildable. I didn't munch anything this time. I got lucky.

Oh yeah, and an ACT 2600lb pressure plate/street disc combo that grabs harder than a bishop in a boy's choir.
