Eh? H22 good for boost?
I have been gone for a lil bit but I am reading what people are saying now about using the H22 for draging and high boost conditions, and im like bewildered. From everything I have ever heard about the H22 it can make 500-600 hp easy, but the B-series engines can get to 1k hp with insane boost. The point is that people are saying you can get the H22 to run high boost but from everything I heard the thinner cylinder walls on the H22 makes it alot less unusable with high boost then the b series engines, tell me if im wrong.. but everyone ive talked to seriously about the H22 engine has said the same thing, they cant kick that much HP out of it for dragging because of the fact that they are afraid the engine will explode upon itself with the high boost conditions...

Yeah, actually ive seen like 3 civics running a bseries at 1khp, although.. they were like totally company cars that were built just to see if they could be :P

Either motor would require serious building to put out a lot of power. the H22 is a little better designed for lower boost levels (sub 8psi) because of its closed deck construction, but its generally considered a weak block at high load. the B-series isn't quite as reliable at low boost, as cylinder walls can crack with poor tuning (open deck = :ghey: ), but once sleeved, can handle just about anything you throw at it. Both motors have their advantages... as for which is ultimately capable of the most power... :dunno:

closed deck means the combustion chambers are bored into a solid block, and the top of the block is flat and even. An open deck motor has an open ring around the sides of the combustion chamber (for cooling, or oil flow or something :dunno: ) that makes the engine weaker.

i've never heard of a 1000 HP civic. let alone anythign past the 600 hp range.
they must be dyno queens cuz i bet it would take alot for a turbo to spool enough to get that much boost

The drawback of the H22 for boost, is if you decide to go for high boost and swap out your pistons for lower compression forged pistons, you have to resleeve it. The factory cylinder walls are FRM (fiber reinforced metal) and you will really score up the cylinder walls if you try using forged pistons with them.
