OK so where should I go and about how much is a new alternator... mine went bad

 

get used one for $50 on ebay or 120 watt of ebay for $120 w/ warranty

 

I always just go to the local part store. Napa has been good to me, and my buddy gets parts at cost...

 

autozone,..advance auto parts,..pretty much any local auto parts store,..should be around 100 bucks with core exchange

how does the alternator die (what are the causes)?

my friend had 45K miles on her saturn and it died, but i have 82K miles on my car and i haven't had a problem with it.

mine went bad b/c the lower altenator bolt fell out (seems to be a common prob on hondas according to the dealer). the alternator was on crooked and the bearing failed. i got a rebuilt one @ pepboys for $120 after core

 

can that be fixed before any problems occur?

 

you know, ive never heard of it happening to anyone i know, and i know pleanty of people that have 150kmi on stock motors. i guess you could just replace the bolt and nut with some grade 7 or 8 hardware from ace or something. 10mm bolt about 4" or so long
